A one page typed note on a piece of producer Ray Stark’s (Fanny Brice’s son-in-law) personalized memo pad reading in full: “Dear Marilyn:/Just another bit of publicity/I received from Manie Sacks this/Morning (sic). /Best, Ray” together with a newspaper clipping dated Friday, January 29, 1954 showing an image of MM under a heading reading “Joe, Marilyn Go To Tokyo;” and the original transmittal envelope addressed to MM at “508 N. Palm Drive/Beverly Hills, California.”

A two page handwritten letter written to Marilyn by a United States soldier in Korea in 1954, dated June 22, 1954; the year she and Joe DiMaggio were honeymooning in Japan when she sojourned to Korea to entertain U.S. troops. She had a hectic itinerary, performing ten shows in only four days with an audience count of over 100,000 soldiers. In the letter, the soldier mentions some photographs of Marilyn he enclosed, though they’re now not present; text reads in part: “…I want to thank you for coming over here last Feb. and putting on a show for us. It means a lot to all of us for you to come over here from the States and put on a show.” Also present is the original transmittal envelope. 5 X 8 inches

A one page handwritten letter from half-sister Berniece Miracle to Marilyn after learning about her divorce from baseball icon Joe DiMaggio, dated October 8, 1954; text reading in full: “Dear Marilyn, /The news about you and Joe came as a shock and we were very sorry/ to hear it. I know you are lonely –/do try and come visit us and it may/ help you over the cloud. You are very/ busy and all, but if you could fly/down here for a few days I’m sure/you would feel better. / We three are just the same as when/you saw us last, except a little fatter/and older, ha ha. Mona Rae is very/ busy in school and loves it. She is/ trying hard to become a cheerleader for the/ football team this year. We love you loads and hope to/see you soon. Norman Rosten pens a brief handwritten note together with a copy of a related script to Marilyn expressing her missed presence at his anniversary party (c.1958). Reading in full: “Marilyn-/ Here’s a copy of a/ little sketch Hedda & I did/ for our anniversary party. / Wish you had been/here to watch us read it. / We were corny, but everyone else was drunk – so it/ came off very well. We’re expecting you/ next anniversary – no excuses! / Norman.” Also present is a six page typed carbon-copy script, dated July 12, 1958, being a wedding anniversary party speech for Norman and Hedda Rosten entitled “The Summer of the 18th Doll.” The material is a satirical look at the couple’s eighteen year-long marriage; the Rostens being close friends of MM’s throughout her adult life, so much so that they were included in her last will and testament. 8 ½ X 11 inches

Two typed letters to Marilyn from Arthur Miller’s father, Isidore, dated December 22, 1961 and February 8, 1962, both from the Sea Isle resort in Miami Beach, Florida. The first letter mentions concerns for Marilyn’s well being and reads in part: “My dear Marilyn, my main concern is how you are feeling and I look forward to hearing from you soon.” The other expresses his loneliness at the resort. In part: “Although the climate is ideal, I am still alone with no one to enjoy all this beauty with.” Both letters are signed affectionately, “Dad.” Also present is a postcard of the mentioned resort, a black and white snapshot of the two, and the original transmittal envelope for the latter letter. 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches

A typed letter and brief handwritten note to Marilyn from Daily News reporter Earl Wilson on personalized letterhead (c. 1961). Reading in full: “I hear from a couple of very good sources that “The Misfits” is an excellent picture—that you in particular are excellent---and I have so written in today’s column. I have mentioned to Pat and to John Springer that I would like to see you for a story on your future plans when you are ready. From my standpoint and perhaps from yours too, ---due to the Zloltow book---I think the sooner the better. I am at your service.” Also present is a French newspaper clipping, (c. 1961), suggesting an affair between Marilyn and Frank Sinatra and the original transmittal envelope. 5 1/2 X 9 inches

Lot 129: MARILYN MONROE LETTER FROM APARTMENT MGMT. CO.
A one page typed letter composed just six days after Marilyn’s 36th and final birthday from the management of her New York apartment regarding an occupancy issue while she was away, dated June 7, 1962. In part: “It has come to our attention that while you were away, you permitted others to live at your apartment, in violation of the terms of your lease. At this time, we do not wish to cause you any embarrassment by serving these people as well as yourself a notice to vacate, and by not doing so, we do not waive your rights under the lease, but merely wish to save you from an unpleasant situation…. We are calling this to your attention so that in the future you will not again permit others to use your apartment, thereby creating a situation which will be embarrassing to you;” the guests being Marilyn’s friends, Mr. And Mrs. Vanderbilt Field whom she met while in Mexico. A smaller typed note, stapled to the left-side of this letter and likely written by May Reis, her trusted secretary, reads in part: “This is a nasty letter and I think deserves/a nasty reply…in view of the tone of the letter perhaps M’s lawyer should answer and I hope tell the management where to get off.” Sadly, MM would die just two months later, making the “illegal” occupation of her apartment a moot point. 8 ½ X 11 inches

Three checkbooks; the first being a book of twenty-five unused checks issued from: “The First City Bank of New York/Fifty-Seventh Street at First Avenue;” (just a couple of blocks away from MM’s 57th Street apartment); printed on the top margin: “Marilyn Miller/Arthur Miller;” the second being an identical book of twenty-two unused checks (three were used); the third being a book of seventeen unused checks (eight were used) issued from: “City National Bank of Beverly Hills/Beverly Hills, California;” (evidently temporary checks as no name is printed on them) housed in a blue vinyl cover with an enclosed check register printed with calendars for the years 1959, 1960 and 1961. Also present is a single check issued by the: “Irving Trust Company/57th Street at Madison Avenue/New York;” printed on the middle right: “Marilyn Monroe;” handwritten in the date area in black fountain pen ink is: “June 1” (with the year crossed out) most likely in Marilyn’s hand. A one page typed note dated November 20, 1959, from “Lilly Daché Boutique and Beauty Salon” at “78 East 56 Street/New York 22, New York” which gives the simple instructions: “Dear Miss Monroe:/ Use undiluted, as is unless a weaker shade is desired. /Thank you/May.” An attached note stapled to the upper left-hand corner is addressed to “Miss Agne (sic) Flanagan” MM’s longtime hairdresser, and reads in full “Dear Miss Flanagan/Please use 1 oz/of this rinse to 8/oz of very hot water/on roots & cond/through ends – on/Miss Monroe’s hair - /the cream is to use/on shaft of/hair after applying/bleach – thank you/Miss Rosemary” – a true insight into how the most famous blonde in Hollywood had to work hard to maintain her hair color. 7 ¼ X 11 inches

Lot 150: MARILYN MONROE SIGNED CONTRACT
A one paged typed letter outlining an agreement between Marilyn Monroe and John Carroll dated December 4, 1947. When MM was just twenty-one, Carroll agreed that “For and in consideration of the sum of One-Hundred ($100.00) to be paid you weekly, you hereby agree that you shall engage your professional services as an actress only through me.” Both parties signed in black fountain pen ink; MM’s signature being very deliberate and neat-looking as she had just recently changed her name from Norma Jeane Baker to Marilyn Monroe. On December 7, 1947, just three days after Marilyn signed this agreement, “Dangerous Years” was released, giving MM her first speaking part as Evie the spirited waitress. Included are reprinted images of MM in “Dangerous Years.” 7 ½ X 10 inches

A one page ‘Agent’s Copy’ exclusive three-year contract between Marilyn and the William Morris Agency dated March 2, 1949. Marilyn agrees to pay the prestigious agency the standard 10 percent for services, signing her name on the bottom of verso. The contract erroneously lists Marilyn’s age as 20 (she was actually 23) and her address as 1215 Lodi Place, Hollywood, California. That year Marilyn signed a contract with MGM to shoot her role in “The Asphalt Jungle” and posed for photographer Tom Kelly for the later famous “Red Velvet Images.” 8 1/2 X 14 inches

Marilyn’s personal working script from the film eventually titled “The Prince and the Showgirl,” which co-starred Laurence Olivier and which her company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc, produced in 1956. The red paper cover displaying label reading “Marilyn Monroe/Laurence Olivier/The Sleeping Price/Personal Copy of Miss Monroe;” thirty-one of the 68 pages are annotated in pen and/or pencil by the star; most of which document minor script changes, though a few revealing, cryptic and non sequitur notations also appear such as: “What am I doing here with this strange man/I can’t believe my eyes, ears/watch him/‘oh no’/this idiot/Chanel #5/I just think it’s a joke/don’t take anyone else’s tone/affective memory/heart breaking” among countless other ‘notes to self’ she penned. This was a famously difficult production for Marilyn with heavy tension between her and Olivier during the entire shooting schedule, ultimately resulting in a box office bomb. However, as evidenced from this working script, MM really made a concerted effort to better her lines and fine-tune her performance. An original watercolor on paper composition featuring a single red rose rendered by Marilyn and inscribed to President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy from Marilyn Monroe.” She additionally signed and inscribed below the first in black ink, this time mysteriously signing her name twice, reading in full: “Happy Birthday June 1, 1962/My Best Wishes/Marilyn/Marilyn.” June 1st 1962 was Marilyn’s 36th and final birthday. That date also remains important because it was her last day of working on “Something’s Got to Give” (Fox) and would also be her final public appearance, as she died later that summer on August 5.
