08/1947, Las Vegas - Hôtel Flamingo

Marilyn Monroe se trouve à l'hôtel-casino Flamingo de Las Vegas début août 1947.
Bill Pursel, qui était à l'époque son petit-ami, racontera que Marilyn se trouvait à Las Vegas - avec d'autres starlettes des studios de la 20th Century Fox - pour un show publicitaire à l'hôtel Flamingo. Ce show est sans doute un défilé de mode: un article du journal local de Las Vegas, le Review Journal du 9 août 1947 parle du défilé.
Bill Pursel racontera que Marilyn l'avait invité à venir la voir. Quand il arrive, le garde de sécurité refuse de le faire entrer, et il ne peut rien voir car de grands rideaux sont tirés; Bill insiste, lui disant qu'il a un rendez-vous avec l'une des filles, ce à quoi le gardien se moque mais finit tout de même par écarter les rideaux pour que Bill puisse voir la salle. Il découvre des filles qui dansent sur scène et Marilyn et son groupe sont assises devant une grande table installée devant la scène. Quand Marilyn voit Bill, elle l'interpelle et lui fait signe. Les spots de lumière se dirigent alors vers Bill qui se retrouve très embarassé. Il entre dans la salle et rejoint Marilyn: ils s'embrassent et l'assistance applaudit.
Après le show, Marilyn et Bill se retrouvent près de la piscine pour passer un moment tranquille. Mais à peine une dizaine de minutes plus tard, un des hommes du groupe de Marilyn lui ordonne, sur un ton agressif, de revenir avec le groupe. Bill s'énerve et menace le type de le jeter à l'eau. Pour ne pas que la situation dégénère, Marilyn rejoint le reste du groupe et Bill part au bar où il s'assied à côté de David Niven et Sonny Tufts. Il ne reste pas longtemps car il travaille le lendemain.
Marilyn avait raconté à Bill qu'ils essayaient de la diriger et contrôler.

Bill Pursel, who was her boyfriend at the time, will tell that Marilyn was in Las Vegas - with other starlets from 20th Century Fox Studios - for a publicity show at the Flamingo Hotel. This show is undoubtedly a fashion show: an article of the local newspaper of Las Vegas, the Review Journal of August 9, 1947 speaks about it.
Bill Pursel will tell that Marilyn had invited him to come and see her. When he arrives, the security guard refuses to let him in, and he can't see anything because large curtains are drawn; Bill insists, telling him he has a meeting with one of the girls, to which the guard scoffs but ends up parting the curtains so Bill can see the room. He discovers girls dancing on stage and Marilyn and her group are seated in front of a large table set up in front of the stage. When Marilyn sees Bill, she yelles and waves. The spots of light then move towards Bill who finds himself very embarrassed. He enters the room and joins Marilyn: they hug and the audience cheers.
After the show, Marilyn and Bill meet near the swimming pool to spend some quiet time. But barely ten minutes later, one of the men in Marilyn's group orders her, in an aggressive tone, to go back in. Bill gets angry and threatens the guy to throw him in the water. To prevent the situation from degenerating, Marilyn joins the rest of the group and Bill goes to the bar where he sits next to David Niven and Sonny Tufts. He doesn't stay long because he works the next day.
Marilyn had told Bill that they were trying to boss and control her.

L'hôtel Flamingo est le premier hôtel construit à Las Vegas en 1946 et dispose de plusieurs restaurants (Paradise Garden Buffet, Steakhouse 46, Tropical Breeze Cafe, Ventuno, ...); le 1er mars 1947, l'hôtel fut rebaptisé The Fabulous Flamingo.

The Flamingo hotel is the first hotel built in Las Vegas in 1946 and has several restaurants (Paradise Garden Buffet, Steakhouse 46, Tropical Breeze Cafe, Ventuno, ...); on March 1, 1947, the hotel was renamed The Fabulous Flamingo.
