Marilyn Monroe s’est souvent déshabillée à commencer pour un calendrier qui vaut aujourd’hui une fortune. Mais elle n’a jamais été aussi nue que dans "Confession inachevée" (Robert Laffont) dans laquelle elle ne dévoile pas son corps mais son âme… Publiée une première fois en France en 1974, cette autobiographie, un journal intime laissé à son vieil ami Milton Greene en 1954 (elle avait 28 ans), n’avait pas été rééditée depuis.
De ce journal, on n’apprendra rien. Rien sur les derniers mois de la star puisqu’il s’achève juste après son mariage avec Joe Di Maggio, le champion de base-ball, le seul homme qu’elle aima, solide et fiable même s’il se révéla parfois violent. Rien non plus, aucune révélation, sur les frasques de sa vie tumultueuse. On y trouvera beaucoup plus : les clés de sa vie ! Livrées sans fard, ni dissimulation, presque sans pudeur. Un vrai trésor pour comprendre qui fut Marilyn Monroe, née Norma Jean Baker un jour de 1926 à Los Angeles.
Devenue la star désirable, attendue, souvent capricieuse, Marilyn explique dans cette « Confession » qu'elle se venge de ces années où elle n'était que la petite orpheline à blouse bleue que personne ne voulait voir. « J'éprouve une étrange satisfaction à punir ceux qui me désirent maintenant. Mais ce ne sont pas eux que je punis en réalité, avoue-t-elle. Ce sont tous les personnages de mon lointain passé qui ne voulaient pas de Norma Jean ».
Si Marilyn se prélasse des heures dans sa baignoire au risque de faire patienter des heures les puissants qui l’invitent, c’est parce que la petite Norma Jean devait se baigner dans une eau qui avait servi aux sept ou huit personnes de sa famille d’accueil. Miss Monroe récompense ainsi Norma Jean, petite fille éperdue d'amour à qui personne n'a jamais offert la moindre tendresse.
Passés ces aveux, on comprend avec émotion que Marilyn ne fut jamais au fond d'elle-même et n’eut même jamais l’intention d’être cette séductrice, cette rivale potentielle qui rendait les femmes folles de rage et de jalousie dès qu’elle apparaissait quelque part. Tout ce qu'elle rechercha au long de sa vie ne fut que de l'amour, de l'attention, de la protection. Tous s'y sont trompés qui n'ont vu en elle qu'une femme écervelée mais d'une incroyable sensualité.
Marilyn en est morte. Elle qui, si elle fut adorée, adulée au delà de l'imaginable, ne fut en réalité qu'une riche, très riche petite fille pauvre…

Présentation de l'éditeur: La nuit du 4 août 1962, seule dans sa chambre, Marilyn Monroe tirait sa révérence. Légende de son vivant, morte elle devenait un mythe. Marilyn avait 36 ans. Près d’un demi-siècle après cette nuit funeste, Marilyn n’en finit pas de fasciner et d’intriguer. Aurait-elle supporté que son image soit écornée à coup de rumeurs fantaisistes et de convoitises financières ? Aurait-elle imaginé qu’aujourd’hui, elle continue d’être l’objet de tous les fantasmes ? Sans vraiment le vouloir Marilyn devint un sex-symbol faisant oublier à beaucoup qu’elle était avant tout une femme. Et, c’est à cette femme que Jean-Marc Loubier écrit pendant trente six jours. Il lui parle d’elle, de ce qu’on pense d’elle, de ce que sont devenus ses amis, ses partenaires, ses amants, ses rivales… Il ne lui cache rien des turbulences du monde et tente aussi de l’amuser, de la distraire. Il lui parle comme à une grande soeur, comme à une amie qu’il n’a pas connue en lui rendant l’hommage qu’elle méritait. Ces Lettres à… Marilyn sont autant de cris du coeur que de coups de gueule. Brigitte Lahaie ne s’y est pas trompée dans sa préface en soulignant que « ces lettres ne ressemblent en rien à une biographie même si de temps en temps, Jean-Marc rétablit la vérité. Elles sont plutôt une satire de notre époque. Teintées de nostalgie mais aussi remplies de ce bon sens qui fait tant défaut à notre époque ».

J'ai beaucoup hésité à évoquer ce livre sur le blog, mais j'ai décidé tout de même de le publier afin de vous mettre en garde: n'achetez surtout pas ce livre, rempli d'inepties, où l'auteur ne fait que des "blabla" inutiles -qui plus est, très mal écrit, sans aucune poésie ou un style littéraire plaisant- à travers une correspondance épistolaire avec Marilyn (par 36 lettres car Marilyn est morte à 36 ans). On n'apprend absolument rien du tout sur Marilyn, et quand elle est évoquée, ce sont des bêtises qui sont retranscrites. Bref, on se demande encore pourquoi les éditeurs français publient ce genre de choses alors que tant d'autres livres étrangers, comme de merveilleuses biographies exhaustives, ne sont pas édités en France. Encore du gâchis !!

In one, Marilyn wears a lacy slip and smiles directly at the camera while holding a hairdryer; in the other, Marilyn sits and smokes a cigarette in an apparent dressing room. One photograph signed in pencil on verso: "Sam Shaw," the other is stamped with a credit to Shaw.

Lot 4050: Candid snapshots of Marilyn Monroe taken in South Korea, 1954
9 black and white photos of Monroe while visiting soldiers in South Korea in 1954. She wears a flight jacket and combat boots and poses with a various soldiers. Together with an autograph letter signed ("Joseph D. Dominguez") by the consignor who took the photos while serving as a Private in the United States army: "It was Ferbuary 1954 ... and better yet, Marilyn Monroe came to Korea at this time to entertain the troops. I got to be one of her guards during her two day stay! I sneaked my cheapie camera into my field jacket and took several photos of her as I went about my guard duties ... I got to exchange small talk with Marilyn and found her to be genuinely warm, tender and beautiful. I wrote some of our small talk 'comments' on the back of the photos ... All photos are unpublished." Condition fair. 5 x 3 1/4 in

Lot 4053: Marilyn Monore 3-D negatives, 1952, sold with photographer's copyright
A collection of 10 color three-dimensional negatives of Marilyn Monroe, taken by Lani Carlson in 1952 at a party thrown by bandleader Ray Anthony, celebrating the release of the song Marilyn, written by Ervin Drake and Jimmy Shirl. Carlson took these photos with a David White Stereo Realist Camera, a dual-lens camera that creates a three-dimensional effect when seen through a special viewer.
Carlson was hired as a sound engineer for the party, and had ample opportunity to take candid pictures of the actress that day. Wearing a hot pink cocktail dress that she also wore in her breakout film Niagara, Monroe arrived in a helicopter and proceeded to pose for photos with Anthony, Mickey Rooney, the helicopter pilot, a dog and alone in front of a blown-up piece of sheet music for the song.

A group of 15 prints (8 color, 6 black and white) being special artist's editions printed in 2011, all signed in pencil by the artist on recto; set is all numbered 1/15; each additionally stamped on verso: "Photographed by Lani Carlson copyright 2011 reproduction forbidden all rights reserved by artist ID: LCA-MM)-01 ED# 1 of 15 Printed 10/14/11." Lot 4055: Marilyn Monroe telegram to director George Cukor, 1962
Western Union telegram stamped June 8, 1862: "Dear George. Please believe me it was not my doing. I had so looked forward to working with you. Warmly Marilyn."
Cukor and Monroe had worked together on the 1960 musical, Let's Make Love. Cukor admired Monroe's star quality and gift for comedy, but found her to be difficult, to say the least. Nonetheless, he signed on again two years later for what would be Monroe's final project: the never completed Something's Got To Give, a remake of the screwball comedy, My Favorite Wife. During filming of the latter, Monroe was frequently absent from the set or held up filming when she was there with her erratic work habits. She also left California in May to travel to New York and sing her infamous rendition of "Happy Birthday" to JFK. When Cukor had shot every scene not containing Monroe, and when she still did not appear on set, 20th Century Fox famously fired her on the morning of June 8, 1962. After receiving the news, Monroe sent this apologetic telegram to Cukor, but it made no difference. Less than two months later, she was found dead in her Brentwood home.
