- La chanson a été écrite par Irving Berlin en 1933 pour la comédie musicale As thousands cheer. Elle fut interprétée en 1938 dans le film Alexander's Ragtime Band par Ethel Merman (qui joue dans There's no business like show business). C'est d'ailleurs Merman qui au départ, était pressentie pour l'interpréter dans There's no business, avant que finalement le titre n'hérite à Marilyn Monroe qui offre une version endiablée et sexy.
- Les Muppets Show en ont fait une parodie en 1981; où Miss Piggy et ses pingouins chantent "Tropical Heatwave":
- Michelle Williams chante la chanson dans le biopic "My week with Marilyn" sorti en 2011.
