Chez les Carroll: Randy (Rand Brooks), anxieux, attend dans le couloir avant de frapper à la porte de la chambre de sa mère (Nana Bryant). Quand il entre dans la chambre, il déclare vouloir lui annoncer une nouvelle importante, prenant un air grave. Sa mère devine qu'il est amoureux et Randy, soulagé, acquiesse. Mais elle souhaite savoir qui est l'heureuse élue, énumérant plusieurs noms que Randy réfute pour finalement lui révéler qu'il s'agit de Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe), qu'elle est merveilleuse, tout comme sa mère. Mais quand Mme Carroll lui demande leur milieu social, Randy se sent incapable de répondre et enchaîne alors en lui disant qu'il préfère qu'elle les rencontre d'abord. Elle accepte de les inviter dans deux semaines et Randy est satisfait.
At the Carrolls' house: An anxious Randy (Rand Brooks) waits in the hallway before knocking on his mother's (Nana Bryant) bedroom door. When he enters in her room, he declares that he wants to announce her some important news, taking on a serious look. His mother guesses that he is in love and Randy, relieved, agrees. But she wants to know who the lucky one is, listing several names that Randy refutes to finally reveal to her that it is Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe), that she is wonderful, just like her mother. But when Mrs. Carroll asks him about their social background, Randy feels unable to answer and then continues by telling her that he prefers that she meet them first. She agrees to invite them in a couple of weeks and Randy is satisfied.
Chez les Martin: Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) et sa fille Peggy (Marilyn Monroe) préparent activement leurs valises lorsque quelqu'un toque à leur porte. C'est "Oncle Billy" (Eddie Garr) tel l'appelle Peggy, très enthousiaste de le voir. Il vient les voir car Peggy l'a appelé au téléphone sans lui dire de quoi il s'agissait. Elle lui annonce alors qu'elle se rend avec sa mère à Cleaveland, pour rencontrer la mère de son amoureux Randy, qui les a invitées pour plusieurs jours. Peggy, euphorique, déclare être "la fille la plus heureuse au monde". Elle demande à Billy de venir les rejoindre à Cleaveland, le considérant comme un membre de sa famille (Billy est un vieil ami de sa mère Mae). Billy accepte immédiatement puis Peggy quitte la pièce pour finir de préparer ses affaires.
Billy s'approche de Mae: inquiète, elle lui dit que Randy va révéler à sa mère que Peggy appartient au monde du burlesque. Billy s'en amuse.
At Martin's apartment: Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) and her daughter Peggy (Marilyn Monroe) are busily packing their luggages when someone knocks on their door. It's "Uncle Billy" (Eddie Garr) as Peggy calls him, very excited to see him. He comes to see them because Peggy called him on the phone without telling him what it was about. She then announces to him that she is going with her mother to Cleaveland, to meet the mother of her lover Randy, who has invited them for several days. Peggy, euphoric, declares to be "the happiest girl in the world". She asks Billy to join them in Cleaveland, considering him as a member of her family (Billy is an old friend of her mother Mae). Billy accepts immediately then Peggy leaves the room to finish packing her luggages.
Billy approaches Mae: worried, she tells him that Randy is going to reveal to his mother that Peggy belongs to the world of burlesque. Billy is having fun.
