Norma Jeane portait un pull rose pâle moulant et avait noué un ruban de la même couleur dans ses boucles blondes cendrées. Avec son teint frais et ses yeux bleus, elle me faisait penser à un ravissant lapin de Pâques. (...) Je remarquai que Norma Jeane portait une alliance. Elle m'expliqua qu'elle était mariée, mais séparée de son mari qu'elle n'aimait plus. Il travallait dans la marine marchande et passait son temps en mer. Elle était donc libre et pensait donc se consacrer au métier de modèle. A aucun moment elle ne parla de vouloir devenir actrice. Ces quelques explications me libérèrent de mes scrupules. En vérité, si j'avais très envie de la photographier, c'était surtout elle que je désirais plus que tout! Je m'étais entiché d'elle dès le premier regard.

Premières photographies professionnelles de Norma Jeane Dougherty au printemps / été 1945 par David Conover, le photographe envoyé par l'armée qui l'a "découverte" à l'usine début Novembre 1944; après quoi, il l'a photographié pendant deux semaines, se rendant à l'usine. Ce serait ensuite au Printemps 1945 qu'il l'aurait amené dans divers endroits naturels en Californie pour la photographier (à Berstow, Riverside, Bakersfield, Furnace Creek) puis, Conover ayant obtenu un congé de deux semaines en juillet, il serait parti en voyage avec elle pour effectuer des séances à travers le désert de Mohave, jusqu'au Mont Whitney, puis dans la Vallée de la Mort.
First professional photographs of Norma Jeane Dougherty in the spring / summer of 1945 by David Conover, the photographer sent by the army who "discovered" her at the factory early November 1944, after that he photographed her for two weeks, going to the factory. It would then be in the Spring of 1945 that he would have taken her to various natural places in California to photograph her (in Berstow, Riverside, Bakersfield, Furnace Creek) then, Conover having obtained a two-week leave in July, he would have left in travels with her to make shootings through the Mohave Desert, up to Mount Whitney, and then into Death Valley.

Après leur première séance ensemble dans le studio du magazine Look le 2 septembre 1953, Marilyn Monroe et Milton Greene poursuivent leur collaboration: le lendemain, le 3 septembre 1953, ils se donnent rendez-vous pour le déjeuner et visionner les photographies prises la veille. Sur la route, Milton s'arrête en découvrant ce cadre idyllique à Laurel Canyon (Los Angeles) et Marilyn pose ici avec ses propres vêtements.
After their first sitting together in the Look magazine studio on September 2, 1953, Marilyn Monroe and Milton Greene continue their collaboration: the next day, September 3, 1953, they meet for lunch and review the pictures taken the day before. On the way, Milton stops by discovering this idyllic setting in Laurel Canyon (Los Angeles) and Marilyn poses here with her own clothes.
