28/02/1951, Los Angeles - Hollywood Foreign Press Association

Le 28 février 1951 se tient le dîner organisé par l'Association hollywoodienne de la presse étrangère (le Hollywood Foreign Press Correspondents Association), une organisation regroupant des journalistes spécialisés dans le cinéma américain et présidé cette année là par le compositeur de musique de films et journaliste Bert Reisfeld. Ses membres votent et décident chaque année des nominations et attributions des Golden Globes, récompensant les productions de l'année précédente. D'ailleurs, à la cérémonie, le film Eve est nommé dans plusieurs catégories tout comme Quand la ville dort, ce qui pourrait expliquer la présence de Marilyn Monroe qui sert alors de support de promotion et de représentation aux films:
- Eve est nommé dans la catégorie "meilleur film" (c'est "Sunset Boulevard" qui est récompensé);
- Bette Davies est nommée "meilleure actrice" dans Eve (c'est Gloria Swanson qui a le prix pour sa performance dans "Sunset Boulevard");
- George Sanders est nommé "meilleur acteur dans un second rôle" dans Eve (c'est Edmund Gwenn qui a le prix pour son rôle dans "Mister 880");
- Thelma Ritter est nommée "meilleure actrice dans un second rôle" dans Eve (c'est Josephine Hull qui a le prix pour son rôle dans "Harvey")
- Dans la catégorie "meilleur réalisateur": Joseph L. Mankiewicz est nommé pour Eve, et John Huston pour Quand la ville dort (c'est Billy Wilder qui remporte le prix pour "Sunset Boulevard");
- Joseph L. Mankiewicz remporte le prix du "meilleur scénario" pour Eve (catégorie dans laquelle est aussi nommé John Huston pour Quand la ville dort);
- Le film Eve est nommé dans la catégorie "meilleure image en noir et blanc" (c'est Cyrano de Bergerac qui remporte le prix).

Pour l'événement, Marilyn porte la robe en satin noir (création de la styliste Renié) du film Rendez-moi ma femme.

On February 28, 1951, the dinner held is organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Correspondents Association, an organization of journalists specializing in American cinema and chaired that year by the film music composer and journalist Bert Reisfeld. Its members vote and decide each year on the nominations and awards of the Golden Globes, rewarding the productions of the previous year.
Moreover, at the ceremony, the film Eve was named in several categories, just like The Asphalt Jungle, which could explain the presence of Marilyn Monroe who then serves as a promotional and representation medium for the films:
- Eve is nominated in the "Best Picture" category (it is "Sunset Boulevard" which is rewarded);
- Bette Davies is named "Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama" in Eve (Gloria Swanson wins the prize for her performance in "Sunset Boulevard");
- George Sanders is named "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture" for Eve (Edmund Gwenn wins the prize for his role in "Mister 880");
- Thelma Ritter is named "Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture" for Eve (Josephine Hull wins the prize for her role in "Harvey")
- In the "Best Director" category: Joseph L. Mankiewicz is nominated for Eve, and John Huston for The Asphalt Jungle (Billy Wilder wins the prize for "Sunset Boulevard");
- Joseph L. Mankiewicz wins the award for "Best Screenplay" for Eve (category in which is also named John Huston for The Asphalt Jungle);
- The film Eve is nominated in the "Cinematography Black And White" category (Cyrano de Bergerac wins the prize).

For the event, Marilyn wears the black satin dress (creation of stylist Renié) from the film As young as you feel.

Il semble qu'avant la cérémonie, les studios de la Twentieth Century Fox ont organisé un cocktail avec les représentants du studio (Spyros Skouras, président de la Fox, Nick Janios, gérant du Café de Paris; Arthur Silverstone, directeur des ventes de l'Est des USA) qui sont réunis à la cantine de la 20th Century Fox, surnommée le "Café de Paris", à Los Angeles.

It seems that before the ceremony, the studios of Twentieth Century Fox organized a cocktail party with the representatives of the studio (Spyros Skouras the Fox president; Nick Janios the manager of the Café de Paris; Arthur Silverstone a sales manager of the Eastern USA) who are gathered in the canteen of 20th Century Fox, named the "Café de Paris", in Los Angeles.

Le 12 juin 1951, fête chez Herman Hover, dans sa villa à Beverly Hills, propriétaire du restaurant Ciro's, avec quelques jeunes premiers du cinéma: Nick Savano, Craig Hill, Marilyn Monroe et Mala Powers. La soirée se termina au Ciro's.

In 1951, June, 12, party at Herman Hoover's home, in his villa in Beverly Hills; he is the owner of the Ciro's restaurant. Here, few young film stars: Nick Savano, Craig Hill, Marilyn Monroe and Mala Powers. Marilyn Monroe wears the swimsuit of the movie Let's make it legal. The evening party ended at Ciro's.

Quand Marilyn met son doigt de pied dans l'eau de la piscine, elle frissonne en trouvant l'eau trop froide. Craig Hill et Nick Savano décident alors de mettre les filles à l'eau. Beverly Ott rapporte dans l'article que Marilyn nage très bien; Marilyn explique qu'elle a pris des leçons de natation, car elle avait une "peur bleue" car tombée dans une piscine quand elle était petite, elle avait failli se noyer.

When Marilyn puts her toe in the pool water, she shivers cause she finds the water too cold. Craig Hill and Nick Savano then decide to put the girls in the water. Beverly Ott reports in the article that Marilyn swims very well; Marilyn explains that she took swimming lessons because she was "scared silly" because she fells into a swimming pool when she was little, and she almost drowned.

Soirée au Ciro's, le club de Herman Hover, où deux autres invités rejoignent Marilyn, Marla, Craig et Nick: l'actrice Corinne Calvet et son mari (acteur) John Broomfield. Ils n'ont pas pu venir à la villa de Hover l'après-midi car Broomfield était en tournage.
Marilyn a emprunté la robe noire de Renié qu'elle porte dans le film As young as you feel (Rendez-moi ma femme).

Dans l'article de Modern Screen, on apprend que Marilyn quitte la soirée plus tôt que les autres invités car elle doit se rendre à une lecture de script le lendemain. Et c'est Craig Hill qui la raccompagne avec sa voiture chez elle (au Beverly Carlton Hotel).
In the Modern Screen article, we learn that Marilyn leaves the party earlier than the other guests because she has to go to a script reading the next day. And it is Craig Hill who drives her with his car at her home (at the Beverly Carlton Hotel).
