We are not aware of any of these remarkable candid shots surfacing before in the marketplace, and each bears the credit stamp of [Helene] Roger-Viollet in Paris. Overall in vintage fine condition.

(Day 2) Lot 1116. Marilyn Monroe extraordinary early signed and inscribed oversized photograph, also signed by Laszlo Willinger. (ca, 1949) Vintage gelatin silver 9.4 x 13.8 in. double-weight photograph of Marilyn Monroe in white one-piece swimsuit and heels posed perfectly against black background, shot by Laszlo Willinger. Neatly and floridly inscribed by Marilyn to her agent in white ink against the black background, “To Ferdinand, Many thanks for your encouragement and friendship. Sincerely, Marilyn Monroe”. Also signed by Willinger in black ink in lower right margin. Accompanied by 1974 sales receipt from Hollywood Book Service on Hollywood Blvd. Easily the most spectacular signed Marilyn Monroe photograph we have ever encountered. Very minor creasing and handling at corners and occasionally through background, in vintage very good condition.

(circa 1949) Vintage (7) gelatin silver approx. 8 x 10 in. glossy photographs of Marilyn Monroe by Bruno Bernard, each with either his credit stamp, studio sticker, or both. A nice mix of early swimsuit and sweater-girl poses, plus a charming shot of young Marilyn towering over pint-sized powerhouse agent Johnny Hyde dancing at a party. Most, if not all, are likely printed later by Bernard in the 1960s from his own negatives. Only occasional signs of handling or loss, overall in vintage fine condition.

(TCF, 1953/printed later) RC paper 8 x 10 in. photographs of Marilyn Monroe by Darlene Hammond (printed and credit-stamped by her later from circa 1953 shots) including many remarkable and seldom-seen candid shots of Marilyn with Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Danny Thomas, Ken Murray, and most notably with Jane Russell for the Chinese Theater ceremony (one of these is a double). All but one bear photographer’s credit-sticker, and several are also signed on verso by photographer as well. In very fine condition.

(TCF, 1954) Vintage 2.25 x 2.25 transparencies (9) loose in original cardboard mounts of Marilyn Monroe on location in Banff, Canada for River of No Return. All are candids either alone or with cast and crew members, and (5) depict Monroe in camisole lingerie worn in numerous scenes throughout the film. Also depicted is her ankle injury incurred during filming. All have shifted toward pink due to ephemeral nature of the film stock, though this is easily corrected for printing. Aside from color shift, all appear fine and remarkably well-preserved.

Vintage (3) gelatin silver 8.5 x 11 in. glossy contact-sheets with (110) [visible] 35mm frames shot by Sylvia Norris at the 1962 Hollywood Foreign Press “Golden Globes” ceremony, majority of which feature Marilyn Monroe. She is featured principally with her Mexican filmmaker lover Jose Bolanos, as well as talking with Rock Hudson, who presented her with “World’s Film Favorite” award. Other stars pictured include Judy Garland (a nominee), Maximilian Schell (winner), Glenn Ford (winner), George Chakiris (winner), Janet Leigh, Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwyck and others. Just one portrait frame of Marilyn has been grease-pencil marked for presumed publication, and all three sheets bear photographer’s credit stamp on verso. Le 29 novembre 1953, la presse américaine rapporte que des photographies de Marilyn Monroe ont été publiées dans un magazine communiste en Allemagne de l'Est. Le Red Editors insinue que Marilyn a aidé le sénateur McCarthy (dans le Wisconsin) dans ses actes, sans apporter le moindre détail. Ils disent que "l'intoxication Monroe" était supposé à faire oublier aux américains pourquoi Tom et Joe devaient mourir en Corée. On donne aussi crédit à Marilyn "d'engourdir les électeurs américains dans la stupeur" avant les élections présidentielles de 1952. Les images de pinups de Marilyn ont été placées sur un champ de bataille pour montrer qu'elle est simplement "l'opium du peuple américain".
In November, 29, 1953, American press tells that pictures of Marilyn Monroe were publiched in a Communist magazine in East Germany. The Red Editors implied Marilyn aided Sen. McCarthy (Wisconsin) in his actions, but failed to go into detail. They said "the Monroe intoxication" was supposed to make Americans forget why Tom and Joe had to die in Korea. Marilyn was given credit, too, for "numbing Americans voters into a stupor" before the presidential election in 1952. The pinups of Marilyn were placed over a battle scene to she she merely is the "opium of the American people".

A Marilyn Monroe signed vintage original 1941 panoramic photograph from Ralph Waldo Emerson Jr. High School. Monroe can be seen in the seventh row from the bottom and the 15th person from the right. Inscribed by the future Marilyn Monroe, among other classmates, on verso, “To a swell, nice & perfect girl Norma Jeane Baker” with “41” possibly written below her name. The image was originally owned by Norma Jeane’s classmate, Joan Boggs, to whom the inscriptions are written.

A vintage black and white RKO studio publicity photograph of Ginger Rogers inscribed, "To Norma Jean Baker Sincerely Ginger Rogers 1937." In 1937 the eleven-year old Norma Jean was living with Grace McGee, a friend of Monroe's mother and a film cutter at RKO. It is possible that McGee arranged for the signing of this photograph for the young Marilyn Monroe. Monroe went on to co-star with Rogers in Monkey Business (20th Century Fox, 1952) fifteen years after this photograph was signed.

A group of three vintage original black and white photographs of Marilyn Monroe at the Honolulu International airport in Hawaii during her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio in 1954. The photographs were taken by a photographer who was tipped off that Monroe and DiMaggio were waiting in a secluded area of the airport. He and a friend, who was stationed in Hawaii with the Navy, went to photograph the newlyweds. The photographer gave the photographs he could not use to the friend, who kept them in his photo book of his time during the war and later sold the photographs at auction. Presumably, these photographs were never released for print. Monroe's thumb is bandaged, and some have accused DiMaggio of inflicting the injury. One of the images can be found in the biography Marilyn: The Passion and the Paradox by Lois Banner (New York: Bloomsbury, 2012).

A three-panel sterling silver custom-made Cartier frame, gifted to Marilyn Monroe by Nedda and Joshua Logan. The center frame houses a black and white silver gelatin print of the portrait Cecil Beaton took of Monroe in 1956. This image is purported to be Monroe’s favorite image of herself. The portrait is mounted to board and signed on matte by Beaton. The center frame is engraved at the top “For Marilyn Monroe Miller” and at the bottom “Love Nedda and Joshua Logan.” Joshua Logan directed Monroe in her 1956 film Bus Stop . The left and right frames house a handwritten letter from Beaton describing Monroe. It reads in part, “But the real marvel is the paradox – somehow we know that this extraordinary performance is pure charade, a little girl’s caricature of Mae West. The puzzling truth is that Miss Monroe is a make-believe siren, unsophisticated as a Rhine maiden, innocent as a sleepwalker. She is an urchin pretending to be grown-up, having the time of her life in mother’s moth-eaten finery, tottering about in high-heeled shoes and sipping gingerale as though it were a champagne cocktail. There is an otherworldly, a winsome naiveté about the child’s eyes… .” The portrait can be seen in images of Monroe’s living room, where it was housed from 1956 until the actress’ death in 1962.

An album of photographs taken by Daryl Mitchell, who served in the Korean War from August 1952 to August 1954 as "Senior Still Photographer" of the 101st Signal Battalion. Mitchell photographed visiting dignitaries, government visitors including Senator Richard Nixon, generals, and entertainers, namely Marilyn Monroe. Included in the album are approximately 93 vintage black and white photographs Mitchell took in Korea, including approximately nine of Nixon and eight of Monroe during her visit to Korea. The images of Monroe show her entertaining, signing autographs, getting out of a Jeep, getting food in line, and two of Monroe with the troops, wearing a flight jacket. Also accompanied by 10 color transparency slides of Monroe on stage entertaining the troops. Seven photographs of Monroe are 14 by 11 inches; one is 10 by 8 inches. Earl Moran was a prominent pin-up artist during the 1930s and 40s with a stylish flair that helped sell millions of calendars for publishers Brown & Bigelow. In 1946 Moran had the good fortune of meeting an aspiring model named Norma Jean Dougherty, soon to become famous as Marilyn Monroe. Dozens of photographs were taken of Monroe in various poses which Moran then used to paint seductive nudes in oil and pastel, portraying Marilyn as a blonde, redhead and even as a brunette. The painting shown here was purchased by the consignor's wife directly from Moran after they met him at the Laguna Art Festival. The consignor fondly recalls how Moran explained to them that the model for the painting was a young woman named Norma Jean Dougherty.

Les années passent, la légende reste ; Marilyn Monroe ne cesse de faire rêver, y compris dans des clichés jamais publiés révélés aujourd'hui. En sépia, l'icône rayonne sur ces photos vieilles de presque 60 ans.
Robe de paillettes et escarpins à bout ouverts, Marilyn Monroe apparaissait toujours prête à monter sur scène. Même lorsqu'il s'agissait de rendre visite aux soldats américains en Corée alors qu'elle était en pleine lune de miel au Japon avec son mari Joe DiMaggio. Février 1954, le moral des troupes restées sur place après la fin de la guerre est au plus bas durant ce rude hiver. Débarque alors Marilyn Monroe, 28 ans, pimpante, qui pendant 4 jours va donner 10 spectacles devant 100 000 soldats et marins épuisés au bout de 3 ans de conflit.
L'héroïne de Certains l'aiment chaud plaisante avec eux, endosse les vestes des officiers, signe des autographes et surtout prend le micro, moulée dans son fourreau. Au total, 13 clichés inédits ressurgissent, prêts à être vendus aux enchères le 10 août prochain, à Dallas, au Texas (Etats-Unis). Même 50 ans après sa mort, en 1962 à l'âge de 36 ans, l'aura de Norma Jean Baker pourrait faire s'envoler les prix de ces clichés. En 2010, des épreuves de photographies inédites datant de quelques mois avant sa mort, tirées à 250 exemplaires, se vendaient entre 1500 et 3000 euros sur internet.
Le record reste tenu pour l'instant par la vente de sa plus fameuse robe: celle qui s'envolait au-dessus d'une grille d'aération dans Sept ans de réflexion. En 2011, elle est adjugée 4,6 millions d'euros lors d'enchères. 50 ans après la mort de Marilyn, ces photos tout juste révélées fascinent tandis que le mystère demeure toujours autour des conditions de son décès.

Never-seen-before photos and film footage of forces sweetheart Marilyn Monroe wooing soldiers in the aftermath of the Korean War have emerged for sale.
Monroe interrupted her honeymoon in Japan with baseball star Joe DiMaggio in 1954 to visit troops who had been fighting on the front line.
The whirlwind tour saw the her perform 10 shows over four days to more than 100,000 soldiers and marines who were celebrating the end of three years of combat.
The visit was the only time the blonde bombshell entertained troops in her career as a singer and movie star.
A set of 13 black and white photographs, taken by an official army photographer, capture touching behind the scenes moments from the tour.
Monroe, who was aged 28 at the time, is seen in combat boots and black trousers and a flight jacket chatting to soldiers and signing autographs in the 8ins by 10ins prints.
Several images show her on stage wowing crowds in a sparkling cocktail dress while in others she is wearing her famed houndstooth dress from her film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
A set of four colour slides depict Monroe mingling and laughing with troops and signing autographs.
A 90-second clip of unseen footage from the visit shot by a young soldier shows her arriving in an army helicopter, meeting troops then leaving in the helicopter.
The images were bought by a collector in the 1990s direct from the photographer and have never been published.
Experts are anticipating international interest in the rare memorabilia when they go under the hammer.
Margaret Barrett, director of entertainment at Heritage Auctions, said: 'These photos came from a collector who bought them about 18 years ago for very little money.
'It isn't known who shot the photos but we think it would have been an official Army photographer because they are professional images.
'There were thousands of soldiers there all with their cameras but these photos show Marilyn behind the scenes posing for the camera and signing things for VIPs.
'Marilyn Monroe flew into Korea to sing for the troops while on her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio.
'It was the only trip she did to see troops and in fact she only ever visited England after that trip - she wasn't a world traveller.
'These photos are really nice and have never been seen before. The photographer was with Marilyn at all the events she went to while in Korea.'
Mrs Barrett said Marilyn's trip to Korea 'really set the tone' for her relationship with DiMaggio. She interrupted their honeymoon to fly to Korea to sing for thousands of troops and, just eight months later, the couple were divorced.
'At the time Marilyn was the biggest star in the world and it was a huge event for the troops,' she said.
'There are not too many quality photos of this trip, especially ones such as these which capture the behind the scenes moments.
'There is an enormous market for Marilyn memorabilia - people are not getting sick of her at all.
'She has been gone 50 years and she is still arguably the biggest star in the world.
'Bidding will start low but we expect there to be fierce competition for the items.'
The auction will be held at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, on August 10.
