Synopsis Harpo, un artiste rêveur et gentil, est aussi un kleptomane invétéré. Un jour, pour nourrir ses amis comédiens, alors qu'il vole tranquillement les clients d'une épicerie, il assiste à une livraison de boîtes de sardines. Il suit les livreurs dans la réserve du magasin et en profite largement pour se servir. Dans sa "récolte", Harpo ignore qu'il a prit une boîte de sardines où un collier en diamants d'une valeur d'un million de dollars y a été dissimulé. Les diamants appartenant aux Romanoff, ils lancent la police aux trousses d'Harpo pour récupérer leur bien. Mais Harpo et ses amis sont aussi poursuivis par Sam Grunion, un détective engagé par les Romanoff, et la cupide Madame Egilichi qui pour récupérer les pierres précieuses, fait enlever et torturer Harpo. Harpo, a dreamy and kind artist, is also an inveterate kleptomaniac. One day, to feed his actor friends, while quietly stealing customers from a grocery store, he attends a delivery of cans of sardines. He follows the delivery people in the reserve of the store and takes advantage of it to help himself. In his "harvest", Harpo is unaware that he took a can of sardines where a diamond necklace worth a million dollars was concealed there. The diamonds belonging to the Romanoffs, they launch the police on Harpo's heels to recover their property. But Harpo and his friends are also pursued by Sam Grunion, a detective hired by the Romanoffs, and the greedy Madame Egilichi who, in order to recover the precious stones, has Harpo kidnapped and tortured. |

Le film commence par plusieurs coup de sifflets suivis d'un son de bip d'un télégramme, sur un plan de Groucho Marx assis à son bureau, casquette sur la tête et cigare aux lèvres, qui s'adresse directement au spectateur en regardant la caméra. Il nous met en garde, exigeant que personne ne sorte de la salle car les diamants de Romanoff ont disparu; suivi d'un plan d'un décolleté féminin portant une parure de diamants. Puis il se présente à nous: il est Sam Grunion, détective privé dont la devise est le secret; il le prouve en nous montrant sa carte de visite vierge de toute impression. Il nous présente son CV: il est à l'origine de la révélation du scandale des mines internationales d'Uranium, précisant que les services secrets (Scotland Yard et le FBI) avaient échoué dans leur enquête. Il explique ensuite l'objet de ce que sera la trame du film: cela fait 11 ans qu'il recherche les diamants de Romanoff qui valent un million de dollars. Il est actuellement sur une piste d'une troupe de théâtre en pleine préparation d'un show musical qui se nomme "Love Happy".
The film begins with several whistles followed by the sound of a telegram beeping, on a shot of Groucho Marx seated at his desk, cap on his head and cigar in his mouth, who speaks directly to the viewer while looking at the camera. He warns us, demanding that no one leave the room because Romanoff's diamonds are missing; followed by a shot of a female cleavage wearing a set of diamonds. Then he introduces himself to us: he is Sam Grunion, a private detective whose motto is secrecy; he proves it by showing us his unprinted business card. He presents his CV to us: he is at the origin of the revelation of the scandal of the international mines of Uranium, specifying that the secret services (Scotland Yard and the FBI) had failed in their investigation. He then explains the subject of what will be the plot of the film: he has been looking for Romanoff's diamonds, which are worth a million dollars, for 11 years. He is currently on the track of a theater troupe in full preparation for a musical show called "Love Happy".
Les plans qui suivent consistent au défilement du générique des crédits du film, inscrits sur des images de répétition de la troupe sur scène.
Pour son quatrième film qui sort sur les écrans, et le premier qu'elle tourne pour les studios United Artists, Marilyn Monroe figure en dernière position des crédits d'acteurs au générique: bien que son rôle soit mineur (une scène de 40 secondes), elle figure à l'écran suivant qui répertorie les seconds rôles.
The following shots consist of the scrolling credits of the film, inscribed on rehearsal images of the troupe on stage.
For her fourth film to be released on screens, and the first she has made for United Artists studios, Marilyn Monroe appears last in the credits of the actors in the credits: although her role is minor (a 40-second scene), she appears on the next screen that lists supporting roles.
