Lot 119: MARILYN MONROE SUIT FROM "LOVE NEST" 20th Century Fox, 1951

A two-piece suit made of light-brown wool worn by a twenty-four year-old Marilyn Monroe as she portrayed sexy ex-WAC Roberta Stevens. Consisting of a fitted blazer with a flared waist and three-quater length sleeves, a matching skirt with six buttons sewn down the front and a self-belt (now in fragile condition), Marilyn wears this suit when she goes downstairs to have champagne with her neighbors played by June Haver, William Lundigan and Jack Paar. Unfortunately, the original white lapels have been changed to an amber-colored velvet for another actress' use and the white ties around the cuffs have been removed, but the outfit is still recognizible as being the one MM wore in this early comedy. Additionally, the skirt has a handwritten cloth label in the interior lining reading 1-69-1-1134 M. Monroe A-635-04 and the jacket has a paper studio drycleaning tag reading Fox 59027 SP. (2)

Lot 120: MARILYN MONROE PERSONALLY WORN DRESS

A dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in both her private and public life. Made of ivory-colored silk and simple in design with short sleeves and a slightly gathered scoop-neckline, this piece has an interior label reading Designed by Jax, one of Marilyn's favorite brands. Three black and white images of MM wearing this dress on two different occasions are included and illustrate how a plain frock on someone like Marilyn Monroe becomes a spectacular ensemble!
Provenance: This piece was originally sold at "The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe" auction Christie's had in October 1999; Lot 132, Page 105 of that catalogue, though it was not pictured as it was part of a group of clothing.

Lot 121: MARILYN MONROE PERSONALIZED NOTEBOOK PAPER AND BOOKS

A pad of lined notebook paper with the initials MMM printed in black on the left-side margin that Marilyn Monroe used when she was married to Arthur Miller together with two hardcover books by Eugene O'Neill from her personal library -- 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' (1956) and 'Part of a Long Story' (1958).

Lot 122: MARILYN MONROE TRAVEL CASES
Two cases that were part of Marilyn Monroe's estate at the time of her death including a black vinyl make-up bag marked Elizabeth Arden New York and a large brown leather toiletry case marked Tiffany & Co Makers New York with the initials M.S.M. embossed on the front. 'M.S.M.' stands for Mary Slattery Miller, Arthur Miller's first wife, whose case was likely left behind after their divorce and then used by the pragmatic Marilyn.

Lot 124: MARILYN MONROE ORIGINAL NEGATIVES AND COPYRIGHTS OF PHOTOGRAPHS FROM "NIAGARA"

A group of four original color negatives and their associated copyrights to images which depict Marilyn Monroe during the filming of "Niagara." Poses include MM sitting by the falls, MM standing with an unidentified man, MM sitting against a stone wall and MM being filmed for a key scene in the movie. All have never before been published with the exception of the first one which appears on page 19 of 'The Niagara Photographs Jock Carroll.'

JOCK CARROLL (1919-1995) Jock Carroll was a Canadian writer and photographer who worked for Weekend Magazine, a popular Sunday newspaper supplement in Canada. It was on assignment for this publication in 1952 that he met Marilyn Monroe while she was filming her twenty-first film, "Niagara." Carroll became so smitten with the star that he shot dozens of photographs of her, but only a few were published at the time. The rest remained unseen for over forty years until Carroll's family published a book titled 'The Niagara Photographs Jock Carroll' in 1996. Christie's is proud to offer the following eleven lots of original negatives, plus all their associated copyrights, from Jock Carroll's now-celebrated "Niagara" photographs, many of which have never before been published. Additionally, each lot includes recently printed photographs from the negatives for visual purposes. Buyers should note that the publishers of the above mentioned book, 'The Niagara Photographs Jock Carroll' (Stoddart/Friedman, 1996), retain the rights to republish the book including future editions. Buyers should also note that certain uses of these photographs may require permission from the Estate of Marilyn Monroe which holds the rights to her name and likeness.

Lot 135: MARILYN MONROE UNPUBLISHED COLOR SLIDES FROM KOREA

A group of twelve color slides showing Marilyn Monroe performing for the troops when she visited Korea in 1954. Never before published (though many similar ones have been), these particular images depict MM in the form-fitting sequined cocktail dress she wore as she belts out numbers on stage with her backup band. Our consignor was there on that historic day and he shot all these sequential slides himself; most show the same view as he snapped one after the other from his vantage point. Two additional slides are included (they show just the band members before MM walks onstage) as is the vintage 1950s Kodachrome Mounted Color Transparencies box.

Lot 136: MARILYN MONROE PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN WITH QUEEN ELIZABETH II

A group of eight black and white original print press photographs featuring Marilyn Monroe at the Royal Film Performance of "The Battle of the River Plate" which took place on October 29, 1956. Shot by British press photographer Harry Myers who has consigned the pieces as well, these mostly unpublished images show Marilyn with Arthur Miller, Victor Mature, Anthony Quayle and in line to shake hands with Queen Elizabeth II. Myers' original 1956 typed press captions are still glued to the verso next to his modern-day ownership stamps and stickers. Additionally, a signed letter of authenticity from Harry Myers is included and briefly outlines his professional background.
