Lot 57: Marilyn Monroe 1960/1970s Small Black and White Snapshot
A circa 1970s later print; glossy finish, on Kodak paper, depicting the star (wearing a Jean Louis dress, lot 58) as she sits next to John Huston and Clark Gable at a birthday party for Kay Gable; the cast and crew threw a surprise party for Gable's wife at the Mapes Hotel in Reno, Nevada on August 5, 1960 where they were all on location filming "The Misfits."

Lot 58: Marilyn Monroe 1960 Jean Louis "Misfits" Press Conference Worn Dress with Book
An original Jean Louis painted-silk jersey cocktail dress worn by Marilyn Monroe for The Misfits (United Artists, 1961) cast press conference in the summer of 1960. Jean Louis' design consists of a cream/beige silk jersey with a painted abstract pattern in watercolors and light brush strokes that mirror the lightness of the fabric. The dress has a fitted bodice with hand-gathered pleats that are hand-sewn into place. The bodice and skirt are sewn just below the waistline, while the skirt is also hand-pleated and accompanied by a sash/tie on both sides of the dress to cinch it and offer more definition. The abstract print contains magenta and shades of green and brown. The print has circular rings that appear to ripple. The bodice and skirt are lined with a chiffon crepe, and the bodice has a lining hand-sewn inside and fitted in contrast to the outer layer of the skirt. A concealed zipper has hook-and-eyes that hide the closure. The hem of the skirt lands below the knee and is hand-tacked, beautifully constructed, and designed specifically for Marilyn, who was a fan of wearing silk jersey fabrics. There is no size label present, but there is a designer label that reads "Jean Louis," along with pen notations in black ink reading. "MM #2." The skirt has moderate discoloration with minor staining. Jean Louis Berthault was an Academy Award-winning costume designer whose effortless designs helped make stars more glamorous. He was the first costume designer to receive a "Gowns By" screen credit. Jean Louis' nude illusion dress for Marilyn that she wore on May 19, 1962, became one of the most famous gowns in pop culture, selling in 2016 for $4.8 million dollars, the most expensive piece of pop culture memorabilia of all time.

Lot 59: Marilyn Monroe Framed Poster
A framed Marilyn Monroe poster of the iconic image of the actress applying Chanel N°5. When Monroe was interviewed for her first cover story for Life Magazine on April 7, 1952, the interviewer asked her what she wore to bed, to which she famously replied, "I only wear Chanel N°5," leading fragrance sales to skyrocket. This comment was made before design houses used celebrities to endorse products; Monroe was the creator of a luxury celebrity marketing campaign. The poster comes in a frame.

Lot 61: Marilyn Monroe Circa 1950s Minaudiere Evening Purse from the Personal Collection of Dee and Tommy Hilfiger

A small cylindrical-shaped piece made of gold-tone metal, either end adorned with an elaborate citrine floret, opens to reveal three compartments: the first holds a tiny hair comb and a tube of lipstick [by Dorothy Gray, shade is called 'Jewel of India']; the second is a compact [some powder still intact], a powder puff, and an affixed mirror; the third is concave to hold other items -- in Marilyn's case, eight Philip Morris cigarettes and two Mercury dimes dated 1943 and 1945; piece is marked on the compact's lid "Wadsworth / Made in U.S.A.;" together with its original black velvet cover and its box reading "Pandora by Wadsworth." In 2016, world-renowned designers Tommy and Dee Hilfiger won this purse at the Julien's Auctions sale of Lee Strasberg's personal property. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit NEXT for AUTISM.

Lot 62: Marilyn Monroe 1954 Jeans from "River of No Return" from the Personal Collection of Dee and Tommy Hilfiger

20th Century Fox, 1954. A pair of classic denim blue jeans; three front pockets, zip fly, button marked "Foremost J.C.P. Co. [J.C. Penney Company], two back pockets with a double line of horizontal yellow stitching, evident tailoring at waist and hips; inside label reads " 1-68-1-0435 Helen /Thurston A-713" [Monroe's stunt double]; small rip on back left side under the pocket, purposeful distressing on the front legs; worn by both Monroe and her double as "Kay Weston." Evidently, Marilyn and Thurston must have interchanged jeans during production because this pair ended up being in Marilyn's possessions when she died in 1962. The waistband and the hips have been taken in on this pair, likely for Marilyn's exact measurements, which is possibly why she took them home with her after filming wrapped. Decades later, in October 1999, world-renowned clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger won these jeans at the Christie's New York auction of Monroe's personal property. He had them framed in a shadowbox which hung in his office for over 20 years, until now when he decided to offer them in this auction. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit NEXT for AUTISM.

Lot 63: Marilyn Monroe 1961 Cowboy Boots from "The Misfits" from the Personal Collection of Dee and Tommy Hilfiger

United Artists, 1961. A traditional pair by Hyer; tan leather with yellow and green stitching on the toe and shaft, pull straps, block heel, size 7 1/2 B; worn by the star as "Roslyn Tabor" in her last completed film, most prominently in the intense scene where she screams out "Murderers!" to a confused Clark Gable and Eli Wallach, but Montgomery Clift gets it.
In October 1999, world-renown clothing designer, Tommy Hilfiger, won these boots at the Christie's New York auction of Monroe's personal property. He had them framed in a shadowbox which hung in his office for over 20 years until now, when he decided to offer them in this auction.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit NEXT for AUTISM.
