Lot 24: Paddy Chayefsky, Copy of the First Draft of "The Goddess" Screenplay
A  c.1979 xerox of Chayefsky's original 132-page first draft script of The Goddess (Columbia Pictures, 1958) with original date of April 1, 1957, bound with brads in blue wrappers. Laid in is a note from agent Paul Schwartzman on ICM notepaper that reads, "After 22 years! / Paul." Revised scripts for the film are 126 pages so this first draft features additional scenes and dialogue.
Chayefsky's script for The Goddess chronicled in three acts the rise and self-destruction of a Marilyn Monroe-like actress and was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Original Screenplay. The performance of Stanley, sometimes referred to as "the female Brando" during her heyday, is considered one of the all-time greats, and contemporary actresses such as Jessica Lange and Meryl Streep have spoken about watching her in the film when they need to be reminded of great screen acting.
Provenance: Estate of Paddy Chayefsky

Estimate: $500 - $700 USD / Sold: $1,300

Lot 25: Paddy Chayefsky, "The Goddess" Original Billboard Concept Art
Original pencil on paper billboard concept art for the film The Goddess (Columbia Pictures, 1958), written by Paddy Chayefsky. The billboard features an image of Kim Stanley and is annotated, likely by the artist or a marketing executive:
"Paddy, You can imagine the way a Billboard would look at night with the face against the sky. Regards," (signed illegibly) and "Suggest head be done by / Joe de Mers n.y.c. / Austin Biggs n.y.c. / Rene Robert Boreche n.y.c."
The Goddess, a tragic film with a highly regarded lead performance by Kim Stanley, is loosely based on Marilyn Monroe.
Provenance: Estate of Paddy Chayefsky

Estimate: $200 - $300 USD / Sold: $125

Lot 26: Paddy Chayefsky, Framed Kim Stanley Portrait, Framed Vintage "The Goddess" Poster
Columbia Pictures, 1958. A black and white framed photographic portrait of Kim Stanley, together with a vintage film poster of The Goddess, in which she starred (likely a half-sheet with its white border trimmed or concealed by the frame). Both are from Chayefsky's personal collection. Chayefsky received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Writing - Story and Screenplay, Written Directly for the Screen" for the tragic film, loosely based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.
Provenance: Estate of Paddy Chayefsky

Estimate: $100 - $200 USD / Sold: $325

Lot 123: Marilyn Monroe 1995 Huge Collection of USPS First Day of Issue Covers/Stamps
A group of approximately 150 envelopes (or "covers" as they're called in philately); each depicting fantastic orginal and/or printed artwork related to the star, all having the official USPS 1995 'Marilyn Monroe' 32-cent stamp evident which was cancelled on "June 1, 1995"; cancellations are from various cities around the USA such as Los Angeles and New York; other cancellations are from fun places such as Universal Studios in Univeral City, CA or different Planet Hollywood locations -- overall, an impressive collection illustrating just how popular Marilyn was 33 years after her death; all are housed in two big binders with their own slipcases. (Please know our illustration does not do justice to this lot!)
To commemorate the unveiling of the Marilyn Monroe stamp on June 1, 1995 [oddly, her 69th birthday instead of 70th], the United States Postal Service collaborated with artists, USPS branches around the country, foreign countries, philatelists, Universal Studios, and the then popular Planet Hollywood restuarant chain to create unique 'First Day of Issue Covers' such as the ones in this collection; many hundreds of individuals, groups, and institutions participated due to Marilyn's perpetual popularity.

Lot 124: Marilyn Monroe 1989 LeRoy Neiman Signed Print Titled "The President's Birthday Party"
A colorful piece; depicting the famous evening that we all know by now, related text evident on the lower margin, signed in black felt-tip ink in the lower right corner "LeRoy Neiman."
Estimate: $500 - $700 USD / Sold: $1,300

Lot 125: Marilyn Monroe 1994 Fender Custom Shop Playboy 40th Anniversary Stratocaster #80 of 175
A 1994 Fender Custom Shop Playboy 40th Anniversary Stratocaster electric guitar, #80 of 175, finished in black with a nude Marilyn Monroe in the style of the famous Tom Kelley photographs airbrushed on the front by artist Pamelina H.
Made by the Fender Custom Shop in celebration of Playboy’s 40th anniversary featuring airbrushed art of the magazine’s first centerfold in 1953. That centerfold featured Tom Kelley’s 1949 nude photograph of Marilyn Monroe from the time before she found success as an actress.

Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000 USD / Sold: $7,800

Lot 126: Marilyn Monroe Circa 1940s Cash Register from The Parisian Florist

A very weighty metal piece; approximately 75 pounds, made by The National Cash Register Co. of Dayton, Ohio, mostly black in color with numerous keys and levers, working condition now not known; salvaged by a conservation-minded Angeleno from the famous Parisian Florist when the company was moving to a new location in 2021 after being at 7528 Sunset Boulevard for decades; this particular florist is important to Marilyn Monroe fans as it was the place where Joe DiMaggio ordered flowers to be sent to Marilyn's crypt for 20 years, from 1962 to 1982; though Parisian Florist has moved to a different building (but still on Sunset Boulevard), Marilyn fans from around the world still order arrangments from them to be sent to the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary for the star's birthday on June 1st and for her deathaversary on August 5th; many other celebrities also frequented this florist as it was founded over 100 years ago in 1924, and was centrally located in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard close to Fairfax Avenue.
