Le bateau United States (surnommé en anglais « The Big U ») est un paquebot transatlantique américain de la compagnie United States Lines. Il est construit de 1950 à 1952 sous la direction de l'architecte naval William Francis Gibbs avec le soutien du gouvernement américain, dans le but de doter le pays d'un navire fiable et rapide qui puisse effectuer du transport de passagers en temps de paix, mais également des transports de troupes dans l'éventualité d'un conflit entre les États-Unis et l'URSS. Il est affecté à la ligne de l'Atlantique Nord, New York—Le Havre—Southampton.
Le navire est le plus grand construit par les États-Unis, et il est également le paquebot le plus rapide jamais mis en service. Il navigue de 1952 à 1969. 
Abandonné et remorqué dans le port de Philadelphie depuis 1996, il est annoncé en ce mois de février 2025, qu'il va être dépollué et coulé pour devenir un récif artificiel en Floride.

The ship United States (nicknamed in English "The Big U") is an American transatlantic ocean liner of the company United States Lines. It was built from 1950 to 1952 under the direction of naval architect William Francis Gibbs with the support of the American government, with the aim of providing the country with a reliable and fast ship that could carry passengers in peacetime, but also transport troops in the event of a conflict between the United States and the USSR. It is assigned to the North Atlantic line, New York—Le Havre—Southampton.
The ship is the largest built by the United States, and it is also the fastest ocean liner ever put into service. It sailed from 1952 to 1969. Abandoned and towed in the port of Philadelphia since 1996, it was announced in February 2025 that it would be decontaminated and sunk to become an artificial reef in Florida.

The Hoax: When announcing the news, the media transcribed in their story of the history of the liner that among the many famous passengers who took the boat, were four American presidents, Coco Chanel, Marlon Brando, and Marilyn Monroe.

Sauf que... pour ses déplacements au sein des Etats-Unis, Marilyn Monroe prenait toujours l'avion. Et elle n'est venue qu'une seule fois en Europe (en Angleterre pour le tournage du Prince et la Danseuse en 1956), où elle avait voyagé en compagnie d'Arthur Miller, en avion.
Les seule fois où Marilyn se rend sur un bateau, c'est pour effectuer des visites de "promotion" en juin 1951 à bord de navires de guerre (soit un an avant la mise en service du USS United States):

Except that... for her travels within the United States, Marilyn Monroe always took the plane. And she only came to Europe once (in England for the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl in 1956), where she had traveled with Arthur Miller, by plane.
The only times Marilyn went on a boat was to make "promotional" visits in June 1951 aboard warships (one year before the commissioning of the USS United States):

Un spectacle de bienvenue est organisé à bord du navire pour célébrer le retour des soldats qui reviennent de Corée.
- First on June 16, 1951, Marilyn is present with other starlet actresses to welcome the return of the ship USS Manchester in Long Beach, California.
A welcome show is held on board of the ship to celebrate the return of the soldiers from Korea.

- Puis le 19 juin 1951, Marilyn est invitée à une fête sur le navire USS Benham accosté à Long Beach en Californie, et qui doit partir pour la Côte Est et envoyé à la guerre de Corée.
Marilyn visite le navire, rencontre les membres de l'équipage, et assiste à la projection du film "Les Hommes grenouilles".
- Then on June 19, 1951, Marilyn was invited to a party on the USS Benham ship docked in Long Beach, California, and which was to leave for the East Coast and sent to the Korean War.
Marilyn visited the ship, met the crew members, and attended a screening of the film "The Frogmen".
