Clara Bow, Lillian Russell, and Jean Harlow were amongst the bygone beauties portrayed, as well as the original silver screen vamp, Theda Bara. Marilyn is depicted as Bara playing the enchanting queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, in a costume that would have been as provocative to the readers of the LIFE Magazine, where the photos appeared in the December 22 issue, as it was to moviegoers in 1917. This print was part of a series of four issued by the artist in 1983, and is from the artist signed First Edition. Lot 89194: Marilyn Monroe Personal Exotic Harem Costume Worn in Her Famous 1958 Richard Avedon Photo Shoot for LIFE Magazine.

Originally sold as Lot 25 in the famous Christie's "The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe" auction held October 27-28, 1999, the auction catalog states (in part): "In December 1958 Marilyn Monroe sat for a LIFE Magazine photo shoot with photographer Richard Avedon. In addition to posing as Jean Harlow, Marlene Dietrich, Lillian Russell, and Clara Bow, she donned an exotic harem girl's outfit with appropriate hair and makeup to imitate Theda Bara in Cleopatra, with the hope of winning the role that ultimately went to Elizabeth Taylor."
Costume consists of a skirt of orange and yellow chiffon scarves attached to a gold lamé bikini bottom with an ornate belt of embossed leather encrusted with amber colored faux jewels, a gold lamé top with metal chain halter designed with snake motif cups with faux emerald "snake eyes" and center textured metal gold-toned ring with four amber colored faux jewels, together with matching snake motif headdress of padded gold textured fabric with three amber colored faux jewels and hanging faux chainmail ornamentation on each temple, and three textured imitation gold metal bangles.  Lot 89189: Marilyn Monroe Signed William Morris Agency Contract (ca. 1949).

Vintage original 2-page management contract (single leaf, front and back) on William Morris Agency letterhead, dated "March 2, 1949" for a six year agreement. Signed in blue ink, "Marilyn Monroe" on verso. This important contract was executed a mere 3 years after Norma Jean Doherty changed her name to the iconic "Marilyn Monroe." At this time she was still taking modelling assignments and very small movie roles. It was through the William Morris Agency, she landed small roles in All About Eve (1950), and John Huston's The Asphalt Jungle (1950). In December 1950, they negotiated her 7-year contract with 20th Century Fox, from leading to supporting, then starring roles. The contract exhibits two hole punches at the top margin, light toning and handling. Comes with a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.

Vintage original "World's Bubble Gum King / Andrew J. Paris" business card signed in pencil on the verso by Marilyn Monroe with her address, "Marilyn Monroe / 3539 Kelton Ave / Los Angeles / AS - 44131".
Andrew J. Paris, known as the Bubble Gum King, served as the technical advisor for the bubble gum blowing scenes in Miracle on 34th Street. In early 1947, while at the Twentieth Century Fox commissary, young Natalie Wood introduced Paris to starlet Marilyn Monroe (who was not yet famous), and he asked her on a date. Paris had Marilyn provide her address on this card so he could pick her up for a night on the town. The business card exhibits light signs of soiling, edge wear and creasing. Comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA.

Lot 89192: The Birthplace of Method Acting: The Legendary Actors Studio.

Vintage Photo Matched "Actors Studio" Sign (ca. 1950s). Vintage original 29.75" x 13" Masonite board hand-painted in black letters, "ACTORS STUDIO" against a painted white background, encased in its original black wooden frame. This sign matches a renowned photograph of Marilyn Monroe, arguably the most iconic student to pass through the Studio's doors. In the photo, Monroe stands outside wearing a dark coat with a fur collar and an ivory V-neck blouse. The sign features unmistakable identifying marks, including a circular indentation just below the top center mounting hole and a circular flaw between the "T" and "O" in "ACTORS"-now worn through-which appear clearly in the image. Mounting holes at the corners and center top and bottom also correspond with the photo documentation. White paint spatter on the top and bottom frame edges, as well as on the back, adds to its authenticity and character (the sign was mounted on a white brick wall of the studio).
A cornerstone of American theater and film, The Actors Studio in New York City has long stood as the epicenter of method acting-a transformative technique that forever altered the craft of performance. Founded in 1947 and shaped by the visionary Lee Strasberg, the Studio nurtured a generation of actors who brought emotional authenticity and psychological depth to the stage and screen. The Actors Studio has been a training ground for some of the greatest performers in cinematic history. Its alumni list reads like a Hall of Fame, including Marlon Brando, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Paul Newman, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Sally Field, Jane Fonda, and Dustin Hoffman, to name a few. This sign is more than a relic-it is a silent witness to the birth of modern American acting. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
