Life goes to a select supper for Marilyn

After finishing her latest film, The Seven Year Itch, Marilyn Monroe was invited to the first formal supper ever given in her honor. Miss Monroe borrowed a red chiffon gown from her studio because she has never had an evening dress of her own, and got to the party at Romanoff'f's nearly an hour late because halfway there her car out of gas. But her hosts, Billy Wilder, Marilyn's director, and Charles Feldman, Marilyn's producer, did not mind. 
They had invited a select 80 of Hollywood's notables, who, on arriving, put their signatures on a large souvenir portrait of Marilyn, then went on to dine and dance by candlelight.
After dinner Marilyn joined Mrs. Wilder, who once sans professionnally, in a duet of Do it Again. Then she danced and talked with her boss Darryl Zanuck and a half-dozen familiar names powerful at movie box offices. "I feel like Cinderella," Marilyn said. The soft music played until 4 a.m. when Cinderella Monroe drove home with a columnist and her agent.

Après le tournage de son dernier film, Sept ans de réflexion, Marilyn Monroe fut invitée au premier dîner officiel jamais donné en son honneur. N'ayant jamais possédé de robe de soirée personnelle, elle emprunta une robe en mousseline rouge à son studio et arriva chez Romanoff avec près d'une heure de retard, sa voiture étant tombée en panne d'essence à mi-chemin. Mais ses hôtes, Billy Wilder, son réalisateur, et Charles Feldman, son producteur, ne s'en formalisèrent pas.
Ils avaient invité quatre-vingts personnalités triées sur le volet à Hollywood, qui, à leur arrivée, signèrent un grand portrait souvenir de Marilyn, avant de dîner et de danser aux chandelles.
Après le dîner, Marilyn rejoignit Mme Wilder, avec qui elle avait autrefois chanté en duo, pour interpréter « Do it Again ». Elle dansa ensuite et discuta avec son patron, Darryl Zanuck, et une demi-douzaine de figures influentes du box-office. « Je me sens comme Cendrillon », confia Marilyn. La douce musique a résonné jusqu'à 4 heures du matin, heure à laquelle Cendrillon Monroe est rentrée chez elle en voiture avec un chroniqueur et son agent.
