Mike Todd, producteur de théâtre et de cinéma (et futur mari de Liz Taylor en 1957), rassemble des reporters le 23 février 1955 au restaurant Sardi's de New York pour annoncer que Marilyn Monroe sera la tête d'affiche, parmi d'autres célébrités, d'un grand show organisé avec le cirque Ringling Brothers Circus le 30 mars 1955 au Madison Square Garden. Les bénéfices de la vente des tickets (au prix de 50 $) seront reversés à la fondation new-yorkaise contre l'arthrite et les rhumatismes.

Mike Todd, a theater and film producer (and future husband of Liz Taylor in 1957), gathers reporters on February 23, 1955, at Sardi's restaurant in New York City to announce that Marilyn Monroe will headline, among other celebrities, a major show organized by the Ringling Brothers Circus on March 30, 1955, at Madison Square Garden.
Benefits from the $50 ticket sales will be donated to the New York Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation.

Mike Todd annonce qu'il est prévu que Marilyn se produise sur un éléphant rose, vêtue d'un costume de théâtre spécialement conçu pour le show, dans une séquence nommée « Le lendemain du réveillon du Nouvel An » ou « Une agréable gueule de bois ».

Il sera rapporté dans la presse en décembre 1955, que le réalisateur John Huston, qui a dirigé Marilyn dans "Quand la ville dort" en 1950, aurait longuement discuté avec elle sur un projet de film biopic portant sur la vie de Jean Harlow (intitulé "The Jean Harlow Story"). Le film ne se fera pas, mais Marilyn retrouvera John Huston qui la dirigera dans "Les Désaxés" en 1961.

It will be reported in the press in December 1955 that director John Huston, who had directed Marilyn in "Asphalt Jungle" in 1950, had long discussed with her about a biopic film project on the life of Jean Harlow (entitled "The Jean Harlow Story"). The film will never be made, but Marilyn will reunite with John Huston who will direct her in "The Misfits" in 1961.

"Marilyn Monroe To Open Circus On Pink Elephant"
NEW YORK, Feb 23 - The circus season will open next month with Marilyn Monroe astride a pink elephant. Showman Mike Todd, known for previous spectacular enterprise, announced today that Miss Monroe would be his main star in an opening night charity performance of the Ringling Brod-Barnum & Bail circus at Madison Square Garden March 30 on behalf of the New York Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation.  (...) "She'll wear a leotard especially designed," added Todd. A leotard is a formfitting theatrical costume. The elephant will be pinked up for the event.
