Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) est tellement ravie que son fils Randy soit tombé amoureux, qu'elle décide d'organiser une fête de fiançailles et d'y inviter tous ses amis de la haute société. Elle demande à son majordome Salisbury (Steven Geray) de recevoir le décorateur M Ripple. Quand ce dernier sonne à la porte, M Ripple (Dave Barry) se présente en parlant à Salisbury d'une voix en gargouillant; il est même accompagné de son fils, Junior Trickle (Alan Barry), qui parle de la même voix, ce qui déconcerte totalement M Salisbury. Il les fait entrer jusqu'au grand salon, qui doit être décoré pour la fête. Ils discutent des éléments à mettre en place pour la décoration, losque l'on sonne à la porte.
M Salisbury, agacé, va ouvrir la porte à Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr). Le majordome lui répond sèchement et le fait entrer, sans lui laisser le temps de se présenter, pensant qu'il a affaire à un assistant du décorateur.

Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) is so thrilled that her son Randy has fallen in love that she decides to throw an engagement party and invite all her high society friends. She asks her butler Salisbury (Steven Geray) to receive the decorator M Ripple. When the latter rings the doorbell, Mr. Ripple (Dave Barry) introduces himself speaking to Salisbury in a gurgling voice; he is even accompanied by his son, Junior Trickle (Alan Barry), who speaks with the same voice, which totally baffles Mr Salisbury. He brings them into the large living room, which is to be decorated for the party. They discuss the elements to put in place for the decoration, when the doorbell rings.
M Salisbury, annoyed, will open the door to Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr). The butler answers him curtly and lets him in, without giving him time to introduce himself, thinking that he is dealing with an assistant decorator.

Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr), valise à la main, se retrouve à attendre seul dans le grand hall lorsque Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) et Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks), suivis de leurs mères respectives - Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) et Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) - descendent les escaliers. Peggy se jette dans les bras de Billy, heureuse de le retrouver. Billy est en effet un ami de longue date des Martin. Peggy le prèsente à Mme Carroll qui appelle Salisbury pour qu'il amène Billy à sa chambre. M Salisbury est confus de réaliser que Billy n'est pas un employé venu pour les préparatifs, mais qu'il fait parti des invités. Il lui prend alors sa valise et l'invite à le suivre jusqu'à la chambre.

Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr), suitcase in hand, finds himself waiting alone in the great hall when Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) and Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks), followed by their respective mothers - Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) and Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) - down the stairs. Peggy throws herself into Billy's arms, happy to see him. Billy is indeed a longtime friend of the Martins. Peggy introduces him to Mrs. Carroll who calls Salisbury to bring Billy to her room. Mr. Salisbury is confused to realize that Billy is not an employee who came for the preparations, but that he is one of the guests. He then takes the suitcase and invites him to follow him to the bedroom.
