Le 8 juillet 1953, Marilyn Monroe reçoit le prix "La meilleure amie des diamants" décerné par la Jewerly Academy (l'Académie des bijoux). Marilyn est en promotion du film 'Les hommes préfèrent les blondes', sorti sur les écrans américains le 1er juillet, et elle porte l'une des robes du film: on lui remet une médaille puis elle pose pour des portraits publicitaires sous l'objectif de Frank Powolny.
In July 8, 1953, Marilyn Monroe is awarded "The Best Friend Diamond has ever had" by the Jewerly Academy. Marilyn is promoting the movie 'Gentlemen Prefer Blonds' on US screen since the 1st July, and she wears one of the dresses from the movie: she is given a medal and she poses for portraits advertising by photographer Frank Powolny.

  Le 14 novembre 1953, le Roi et la Reine de Grèce sont invités à visiter les locaux des studios de la 20th Century Fox à Los Angeles et sont reçus par le patron de la Fox Spyros Skouras, d'origine grec. Le Roi Paul et son épouse la Reine Frederika visitent des plateaux de tournage et sont présentés à plusieurs stars de la Fox:  Marilyn Monroe, Michael Rennie, Cliffton Webb, Danny Kaye, Vera Allen, Jane Russell, Cecil B DeMille, entre autres. L'événement est même filmé et les images sont diffusées dans les actualités américaines.

  On November 14, 1953, the King and Queen of Greece are invited to visit the studios of 20th Century Fox in Los Angeles and are received by Fox president Spyros Skouras, of Greek origin. DeMille, Darryl F. Zanuck). Le "maître de cérémonie" est l'acteur Dick Powell.

En janvier 1953, la poétesse britannique "Dame" Edith Sitwell, alors en voyage aux Etats-Unis, réside à l'hôtel Sunset Tower à Hollywood. Le magazine Life demande à Sitwell d'écrire un article sur sa visite d'Hollywood, incluant une rencontre (organisée par le magazine) avec Marilyn Monroe: Life souhaite que les deux femmes, que tout oppose, s'interviewent mutuellement. Edith Sitwell racontera plus tard que « il était évident que nous étions nées pour nous détester, que nous le ferions à première vue, et que nos insultes ultérieures l'une envers l'autre provoqueraient une agitation lorsqu'elles seraient publiées ». En fait, leur rencontre les marquera chacune; elles s'entendent bien et discutent littérature et du philosophe Rudolf Steiner.
Cette première rencontre de Marilyn avec Sitwell se déroule en une après-midi de janvier 1953 à cet hôtel; l'entretien dure 30 minutes et sera immortalisé par le photographe de Life, George Silk. Sitwell racontera dans son autobiographie ("Taken Care Of: The Autobiography of Edith Sitwell", sortie en 1965) que Marilyn "portait une robe verte et avec ses cheveux jaunes, ressemblait à une joncquille." Sitwell n'a finalement pas écrit d'article pour Life.

In January 1953, the British poet "Dame" Edith Sitwell, while traveling in the United States, stayed at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Hollywood.  Life magazine asked Sitwell to write an article about her visit to Hollywood, including a meeting (arranged by the magazine) with Marilyn Monroe: Life wants the two women, who are completely opposites, to interview each other. Edith Sitwell later recounted that “it was obvious that we were born to hate each other, would do so at first sight, and that our subsequent insults to each other would cause a commotion when reported”. In fact, their meeting will mark each of them; They get along well and discuss literature and about philosopher Rudolf Steiner.
This first meeting of Marilyn with Sitwell took place on an afternoon in January 1953 at this hotel; The interview lasts 30 minutes and will be immortalized by Life photographer George Silk. Sitwell will tell in her autobiography ("Taken Care Of: The Autobiography of Edith Sitwell", realesed in 1965) that Marilyn "wore a green dress and, will her yellow hair, looked like a daffodil." Sitwell finally didn't write an article for Life.

Après la parution de la photographie du magazine Life, Sitwell a déploré que l'image ait fait de sa vie un « enfer absolu. (...) Certaines personnes agaçantes ne me laissent même pas la paix. Ils lui envoient des lettres. Les journaux du monde entier ont commenté notre rencontre. Un journal égyptien est allé jusqu'à dire que je lui enseignais la philosophie ». Un an plus tard, elle écrit à son ami Geoffrey Singleton, à propos d'une « Ode du couronnement » qui lui est faussement attribuée: « Cela fait probablement partie de ma célèbre amitié avec Marilyn Monroe, que j'ai rencontrée une fois...et je ne l'ai pas revu depuis ». Les deux femmes garderont un contact aléatoire: quand Marilyn part en Angleterre pour tourner "Le Prince et la Danseuse", elle rendra visite à Sitwell lors d'un déjeuner au Sesame avec Arthur Miller.

After the photograph appeared in Life magazine, Sitwell lamented that the image had made her life an “absolute hell. . . . Some tiresome people will not even let me have any peace. They send letters addressed to her. Newspapers all over the world commented about our meeting. An Egyptian paper went so far as to say I was instructing her in philosophy”.  A year later, she wrote to her friend, Geoffrey Singleton, on a “Coronation Ode” falsely attributed to her: “It is probably part of my famous friendship with Marilyn Monroe—whom I met once ... and have not seen since.” The two women will maintain random contact: when Marilyn leaves for England to film "The Prince and the Showgirl", she will visit Sitwell during a lunch to the Sesame Club with Arthur Miller.
