Richard Avedon raconte le déroulement de la séance photos:
Pendant des heures, elle a dansé, chanté, flirté et elle a joué à être -elle a été- Marilyn Monroe. Et puis il y eut la chute inévitable. Et quand la nuit fut finie, elle s'est assise dans un coin comme une enfant, vide. Je la voyais s'asseoir tranquillement, sans expression sur son visage, et je me dirigeais vers elle, mais je ne voulais pas la photographier à son insu. Et comme j'arrivais avec l'appareil, j'ai vu qu'elle ne disait pas non...

Richard Avedon comments the sitting:
"For hours she danced and sang and flirted and did this thing that’s—she Marilyn Monroe. And then there was the inevitable drop. And when the night was over and the white wine was over and the dancing was over, she sat in the corner like a child, with everything gone. I saw her sitting quietly without expression on her face, and I walked towards her but I wouldn’t photograph her without her knowledge of it. And as I came with the camera, I saw that she was not saying no."

Le magazine Esquire publia en 1957 quelques portraits du photomaton: Marilyn Monroe la bouche ouverte avec les lèvres rouges à nu; Bert Lahr enlaçant un mannequin en bois; Willie Mays portant sa tenue de l'équipe de New York, saluant "Say Hey"; Audrey Hepburn en tête-à-tête avec Truman Capote et Mel Ferrer.
Richard Avedon expliquera: "Je voulais prouver que tout n'était pas dans l'objectif; que la bonne photographie était dans la conception (...) la partie métier de la photographie pourrait ressembler à de l'écriture. Pour moi, c'est la profondeur, la spontanéité».
The Esquire magazine published in 1957 some portraits of the photobooth: Marilyn Monroe mouth opened with red lips naked; Bert Lahr hugging a wooden mannequin; Willie Mays wearing his New York team outfit, greeting "Say Hey"; Audrey Hepburn in tete-a-tete with Truman Capote and Mel Ferrer.
Richard Avedon will explain: "I wanted to prove that everything was not in the lens, that good photography was in the design (...) the business part of photography could look like writing. To me, this is the depth, the spontaneity.

Le 12 mai 1957 Marilyn Monroe donne le coup d'envoi du match de football USA vs Israël au stade d' Ebbets Field à Brooklyn (quartier de New York). C'est une Marilyn enjoueuse et resplendissante, vêtue d'une robe d'un bleu vif, qui se rend à cette manifestation publique, suivie par des milliers de spectateurs. Arrivée en voiture décapotable qui a fait le tour du stade, Marilyn salue le public et signe des autographes. Enthousiasmée, elle tape si fort dans la balle qu'elle se foula un orteil !
Sammy Davis Jr est aussi présent.

Séance "Rouge"
Red Sitting

Le 27 janvier 1957, c'est dans son studio au 480 Lexington Avenue, à New York que Milton H Greene réalise ce qui restera sa dernière séance avec Marilyn Monroe. Commande pour le magazine" Life", les clichés serviront de support publicitaire pour le film "Le Prince et la Danseuse". Marilyn y apparaît tour à tour mutine et sensuelle, et bien qu'il s'agisse de leur dernière collaboration, il en ressort néanmoins la complicité qui a toujours lié le photographe et la star.

On January 27, 1957, it is in his studio at 480 Lexington Avenue in New York that Milton H Greene performs what would be his last sitting with Marilyn Monroe. Realized for the magazine "Life", the pictures will serve as advertising medium for the film "The Prince and the Showgirl". Marilyn appears in turn mutineer and sensual, and although this is their last collaboration, it nevertheless shows the complicity that has always linked the photographer and the star.

Je n'ai aucune idée de la date ni du lieu ?!

Le 31 mai 1957 Marilyn Monroe et son mari Arthur Miller quittent leur appartement de New York pour se rendre à Washington.
Arthur Miller a été condamné par un juge fédéral pour outrage au Congrès pour avoir refusé d'identifier les écrivains communistes avec lesquels il avait participé à des réunions il y a 10 ans. Miller a refusé de commenter alors qu'une petite armée de journalistes s'était rassemblée dans la rue devant son domicile.

On May 31, 1957, Marilyn Monroe and her husband Arthur Miller left their New York apartment to go to Washington.
Arthur Miller was convicted by a federal judge of contempt of congress for refusing to identify Communist writers with whom he attended meetings 10 years ago.
Miller declined to comment as a small army of reporters gathered in street outside his home.

Un journaliste aborde Arthur Miller, lui demandant: "Monsieur Miller, êtes-vous très déçu de la décision de la cour ?". Miller l'ignore, sans lui porter le moindre regard.
Alors le journaliste s'avance vers Marilyn, lui posant la question: "Madame Miller, avez-vous des commentaires à faire à ce sujet ?". Elle ne lui répond pas et monte dans la voiture.

A reporter approaches Arthur Miller, asking him: "Mr. Miller, are you very disappointed with the court's decision?" Miller ignores him, without even looking at him.
Then the reporter walks up to Marilyn, asking her: "Mrs. Miller, do you have any comments on this?" She doesn't answer him and gets into the car.

Marilyn Monroe attend devant la maison de Joseph Rauh, l'avocat de son mari Arthur Miller, à Washington, ce 23 mai 1957, jour de la fin du procés de Miller. Marilyn confie aux journalises que son mari "finira par gagner". Quand Arthur la rejoint, le couple regagne la gare afin de rentrer à New York en train. Certaines photographies sont de Mickey Senko.
