Marilyn Monroe en maillot de bain deux pièces à fleurs - une création du couturier de la Fox, Charles Le Maire - en février / mars 1947; bien qu'elle ne porte pas ce maillot dans le film, le but de cette séance est d'en faire des portraits publicitaires pour son premier film Scudda Hoo ! Scudda Hay ! dans lequel elle tient un rôle de figuration. La 20th Century Fox utilise ses jeunes starlettes pour les faire photographier dans le style des pin-up afin de s'assurer que les photographies soient publiées dans la presse (dès début avril 1947 pour cette séance) et ainsi, de promouvoir leurs films plutôt mineurs à l'affiche. 
La séance aurait eu lieu dans la villa à Beverly Hills de Artie Stebbins, scénariste et producteur à Hollywood et neveu de Joseph Schenck.

Marilyn Monroe in a two-piece floral swimsuit - a creation by Fox designer Charles Le Maire - in February / March 1947; although she doesn't wear this swimsuit in the film, the goal of this photos sitting is to make publicity portraits for her first film Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! in which she plays a figurative role. The 20th Century Fox uses its young starlets to have them photographed in pin-up style to ensure that the photographs will be published in the press (from the beginning of April 1947 for that session) and thus to promote their rather minor films on the screens.
The shoot was reportedly held in the Beverly Hills villa of Artie Stebbins, Hollywood screenwriter and producer and nephew of Joseph Schenck.

Les grandes "vedettes" du film sont June Haver et Lon Mc Callister, cités avec le titre du film. Le nom de la très jeune Natalie Wood apparaît à l'écran suivant. La dernière personne mentionnée est le réalisateur, F. Hugh Herbert.

Marilyn Monroe is not mentioned in the credits of the film, as her role is minor, more akin to figuration. The big "stars" of the film are June Haver and Lon Mc Callister, cited with the title of the film. The very young Natalie Wood's name appears on the next screen. The last person credited is the director, F. Hugh Herbert.

Le seul passage furtif de Marilyn Monroe dans le film (6 secondes): elle apparaît à la 51ème minute, parmi les gens qui sortent de l'église, prononçant deux mots de dialogue "Hi Rad !" en s'adressant à Rad McGill (interprétée par June Haver) accompagnée de Bean McGill (jouée par Natalie Wood); bien que son passage est furtif, son personnage porte un prénom: elle joue Betty, une amie de Rad, qui lui répond "Hi Betty !".

The only stealthy passage of Marilyn Monroe in the film (6 seconds): she appears in the 51st minute, among people who get out from the church, uttering two words of dialogue "Hi Rad!" addressing to Rad McGille (played by June Haver) accompanied by Bean McGill (played by Natalie Wood); although her passage is furtive, her character has a first name: she plays Betty, a friend of Rad's, who replies "Hi Betty!".

La deuxième scène dans laquelle joue Marilyn Monroe à la 52ème minute, succède directement à sa première apparition, lors du passage où June Haver, Lon Mc Callister, Natalie Wood et deux autres acteurs sont en maillot de bain au bord d'une rivière.
On ne peut que distinguer Marilyn Monroe et l'actrice Colleen Towsend qu'en silhouette au second plan, ramant dans un canöé qui s'éloigne lentement.

The second scene in which Marilyn Monroe plays in the 52nd minute, directly follows her first appearance, during the passage where June Haver, Lon Mc Callister, Natalie Wood and two other actors are in swimsuits by a river. We can only distinguish Marilyn Monroe and the actress Colleen Towsend only in silhouette in the background, rowing in a canoe which moves away slowly.

En fait, la scène de dialogues avec les personnages interprétés par Marilyn Monroe (qui joue Betty) et Colleen Towsend (qui joue June) dans la barque a été coupée au montage. Elles échangent quelques mots avec Robert Karnes (qui interprète Stretch Dominy); le dialogue tel qu'il figurait dans le scénario original:

Betty (gaie) : Salut Stretch.
Stretch (traînant): Salut Betty – salut June.
June (timidement): Est-ce que ça te va si on nage depuis ton quai ?
Avec son pied, Stretch repousse le bout de la barque dans le ruisseau.

In fact, the dialogue scene with the characters played by Marilyn Monroe (who plays Betty) and Colleen Towsend (who plays June) in the boat was cut during the editing. They exchange a few words with Robert Karnes (who plays Stretch Dominy); the dialogue as it appeared in the original script:

Betty (gayly): Hi Stretch.
Stretch (drawling): Hi Betty– hi June.
June (coyly): Is it all right with you if we swim off your dock ?
With one bare foot, Stretch shoves the nose off the boat out into the stream again

  Colleen Townsend, née le 21 décembre 1928, avait 18 ans et demie pendant le tournage du film, qui était déjà son 6ème film. Et comme pour Marilyn Monroe, qui avait 20 ans et demie, sa scène sera coupée au montage, puisque Colleen est sa partenaire dans la scène de la barque.
Colleen Townsend dira plus tard sur Marilyn ( sur Marilyn Remembered ) : "Ce n'était pas vraiment un rôle que ce soit pour Marilyn ou pour moi, n'est-ce pas ?… Je ne l'ai jamais vraiment bien connue – vous savez, nous n'avons pas sympathisé ensemble – mais je me souviens mieux d'elle lors des cours que nous avons suivis ensemble à l'Actor's Lab, et j'ai juste de très, très bons souvenirs d'elle… Fondamentalement, dans son cœur, elle était une personne très douce, une personne très aimante."

Colleen Townsend, born in December 21, 1928, was 18 and a half while the filming, which was already her 6th film. And as for Marilyn Monroe, who was 20 and a half years old, her scene will be cut during the editing, since Colleen is her partner in the boat scene. Colleen Townsend will say later about Marilyn: “It wasn’t much of a part for either Marilyn or for me, was it?… I never really knew her very well– you know, we didn’t socialize together –but I remember her best from the classes we attended together for the Actor’s Lab, and I just have very, very fond memories of her… Basically, at her heart, she was a very sweet person, a very loving person.”

  Diana Herbert, née le 25 décembre 1928, avait 18 ans et demie pendant le tournage du film. Fille du réalisateur et scénariste Frederick H Herbert, elle vient souvent sur le tournage du film et sympathise avec Marilyn Monroe, qui avait 20 ans et demie.
Elle racontera quelques anecdotes sur la personnalité de Marilyn ( dans le livre de J. Randy Taraborrelli The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe ):
"C'était un lapin effrayé. En catimini, je l'ai fait entrer dans une salle de projection où mon père était installé en train de regarder pour le montage, et Marilyn a pu se voir dans la scène avant qu'elle ne soit coupée. Elle avait eu une ligne et m'avait chuchoté : « Est-ce que j'ai l'air si horrible ? »
Mon père, utilisant le vieil adage, m'a dit que Marilyn avait une telle photogénie qui valait un million de dollars. Il m'a dit qu'elle allait devenir une grande star."
Une fois le film terminé, Diana a organisé une fête au bord de la piscine dans la demeure de sa famille à Bel Air en présence de ses amis de l'université d'UCLA. Marilyn lui a dit qu'elle aimerait y assister, mais ce jour-là, elle avait un cours à l'Actor's Laboratory avec sa nouvelle amie, l'actrice Shelley Winters ; mais elle irait à la fête après. Le jour fixé, Marilyn arrive très en retard. "Elle est venue tranquillement avec son sac de plage. Je sors de la piscine pour l'amener au vestiaire. Beaucoup de temps passe... et pas de Marilyn. Alors je me suis inquiétée et je suis allée frapper à la porte pour l'appeler: "Tu vas bien ?" et elle a dit "Ouais", d'une voix à peine audible. "Je sors tout de suite, je dois juste me changer." Alors je suis retournée dans la piscine. Une heure s'est écoulée, et pas de Marilyn. Alors, encore une fois, je suis retournée au vestaire et j'ai frappé à la porte. "Je sors tout de suite ", a-t-elle dit. À ce moment-là, tout le monde sortait de la piscine, se séchait et rentrait chez soi. Le temps passe encore. Je suis de nouveau allée au vestiaire et j'ai frappé à la porte. Mais elle était partie. Elle n'est même jamais sortie du vestaire, sauf pour partir."

  Diana Herbert, born December 25, 1928, was 18 and a half years old while the film was being made. Daughter of director and screenwriter Frederick H Herbert, she often comes on the set of the film and sympathizes with Marilyn Monroe, who was 20 and a half years old. She will tell some anecdotes about Marilyn's personality (in J. Randy Taraborrelli's book The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe):
"She was a scared rabbit. On the sly, I snuck her into a screening room where my father was viewing for editing, and Marilyn got to see herself in the bit part before it was trimmed. She'd had one line and whispered to me, "Do I sound that awfull ?
My father, using the old adage, told me Marilyn photographed like a million dollars. He told me she was going to be a big star." 
When the film was completed, Diana hosted a pool party at her family's mansion in Bel Air attended by her friends from university of UCLA. Marilyn said she would love to attend but that day, she had a class at the Actor's Laboratory with her new friend, actress Shelley Winters; but she would go to the party afterward.
On the appointed day, Marilyn arrived very late. "She came quietly with her beach bag. I go out of the pool to direct her to the dressing room. A lot of time passed... and no Marilyn. So I became concerned and went and knocked on the door to call out her: "Are you okay ?" and she said "Yeah", in a voice that was barely audible. "I'll be right out, I just have to change." So I went back in the pool. An hour went by, and no Marilyn. So, again, I went back to the dressing room and knocked on the door. "I'll be right out", she said.
By this time, everyone was getting out of the pool, drying off, and going home. More time passed. I again went to the dressing room and knocked on the door. But, she was gone. She never even came out of the dressing room except to leave."
