• Genèse - La chanson a été écrite au début des années 1920s, George Gershwin en est le compositeur pour la musique et Buddy DeSylva en est le parolier; Gershwin racontera en 1934 les circonstances de l'écriture de la chanson: "J'étais dans le bureau de Max Dreyfus, mon éditeur, un jour où Buddy DeSylva était là. DeSylva m'a dit en plaisantant: "George, écrivons un tube !" Je l'ai égalé en disant: "OK !" Je me suis assis au piano, et j'ai commencé à jouer un thème que je composais sur-le-champ... Buddy a écouté pendant quelques minutes puis a commencé à chanter ce titre - "Oh, Do It Again !", auquel il venait s'adapter à mon thème."

Cette mise en scène réunissant les quatre actrices (Marilyn Monroe, Marion Marshall, Joyce MacKenzie et Barbara Smith) qui tiennent des rôles secondaires de danseuses de la troupe de Mme Adelaide (interprétée par Connie Gilchrist), avec l'acteur Dan Dailey qui offre tout son talent comique et d'acteur facétieux. La chorégraphie des danses est de Kenny Williams.

This staging bringing together the four actresses (Marilyn Monroe, Marion Marshall, Joyce MacKenzie and Barbara Smith) who hold secondary roles as dancers in the troupe of Mrs. Adelaide (played by Connie Gilchrist), with actor Dan Dailey who offers everything his talent for comedy and facetious acting. Dance choreography is by Kenny Williams.
The song begins with the four girls in chorus, then each goes on with a solo verse (a sentence): a shrewd ear allows you to determine right away that Marilyn's singing voice is not her own. The actresses are dubbed for singing.

Nicole Scherzinger, la chanteuse du groupe Pussycat Dolls, s'est produite sur scène le 2 décembre 2007 dans le show Music Rocks! , au Kodak Theatre de Hollywood, qui est un véritable show de programme télévisé musical américain mettant en scène les artistes du monde de la musique d'aujourd'hui qui performent sur scène des chansons des plus grands films. Nicole Scherzinger a ainsi produit la performance de Marilyn Monroe en 1953 dans Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, en reprenant sur scène la fameuse scène du film de la chanson Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend.

Dans de nombreux sites dédiés à Marilyn Monroe, ainsi que dans les sites de vidéos en ligne (tels youtube ou encore dailymotion), on retrouve souvent le titre "Teach Me Tiger" faisant parti de la discographie de Marilyn. Or, ce n'est pas Marilyn Monroe qui chante, même si la voix ressemble beaucoup, de par certaines intonations (qui rappellent un peu "Do It Again" interprété par Marilyn).

C'est en fait la chanteuse américaine April Stevens qui interprète ce titre enregistré en 1959, et aux intonations sexuelles très suggestives, qui causa d'ailleurs un tollé à l'époque.
April Stevens est née sous le nom de Carol LoTempio, le 29 avril 1936 à Niagara Falls, New York. Elle a enregistré ses premiers disques dès l'âge de 16 ans, et a connu quelques succés avec l'orchestre de Henri Rene dans les années 1950. Mais c'est en 1963, qu'elle sera propulsé grâce au titre "Deep Purple" interprété en duo avec son frère Antonino LoTempio (connu sous le nom de scène Nino Tempo) et qui les mena No.1 aux charts américains du réputé Billboard. La chanson gagna ainsi un Grammy Award en 1964 du Meilleur Titre Rock and Roll.

• Les auteurs Allan Roberts (compositeur) et Lester Lee (parolier) ont créé les chansons pour le film. Ils travaillaient pour les studios de la Columbia. Allan Roberts signe en 1945 un contrat de sept avec la Columbia pour leur écrire des chansons de films: il écrira les bandes sons de près d'une vingtaine de films, dont Gilda (et les tubes "Put the blame on Mame" et "Amado Mio" chantés par Rita Hayworth). On lui doit aussi de grands standards de jazz interprétés par Billie Holiday et Benny Goodman.
  Authors Allan Roberts (composer) and Lester Lee (lyricist) created the songs for the film. They worked for Columbia studios. • Les auteurs Allan Roberts (compositeur) et Lester Lee (parolier) ont créé les chansons pour le film. Ils travaillaient pour les studios de la Columbia.
  Allan Roberts signe en 1945 un contrat de sept avec la Columbia pour leur écrire des chansons de films: il écrira les bandes sons de près d'une vingtaine de films, dont Gilda (et les tubes "Put the blame on Mame" et "Amado Mio" chantés par Rita Hayworth). On lui doit aussi de grands standards de jazz interprétés par Billie Holiday et Benny Goodman.

"Every Baby Needs a Da-da-daddy" est la troisième chanson chantée par Marilyn dans le film (elle chante deux titres en solo, celle-ci et "Anyone Can See I Love You" ainsi que le titre du film "Ladies of the Chorus" interprétée en choeurs avec les autres chanteuses). Elle interprète le titre seule sur scène, et danse d'une façon sensuelle; puis est rejointe par les autres chanteuses (dont Adele Jergens qui joue sa mère dans le film) qui reprennent le refrain en choeur. La scène du film est tournée le 17 mai 1948  dans les studios de la Columbia.
  The movie "The Ladies of the Chorus" is the first musical in which Marilyn Monroe plays. She plays the leading role, that of Peggy Martin, a 'queen of burlesque'. "Every Baby Needs a Da-da-daddy" is the third song sung by Marilyn in the film (she sings two titles in solo, this one and "Anyone Can See I Love You" and the title of the film "Ladies of the Chorus" performed in chorus with the other singers). She interprets the title alone on stage, and dances in a sensual way; then she is joined by the other singers (including Adele Jergens who plays her mother in the film) who sings in chorus. A la vue de Marilyn, les hommes se mettent à siffler, applaudir et sauter de leur siège !
  The Columbia war film "Okinawa" released in 1952, contains a passage where the crew of the U.S. Naval ship watches a film, to boost the morale of the troops, and this is the extract where Marilyn sings "Every Baby Needs a Da-da-daddy" in "Ladies of the Chorus".
