M. Giffen travaillait dans l'industrie cinématographique et connaissait Gladys Baker, la mère de Marilyn. Pour lui rendre service, lui et sa femme ont pris soin de Norma Jeane notamment en 1935; ils auraient même souhaité l'adopter mais Gladys ne l'aurait pas permis.

Mr. Giffen worked in the film industry and knew Gladys Baker, Marilyn's mother. As a favor to her, he and his wife took care of Norma Jeane in 1935 and they even planned to adopt her, but Gladys wouldn't allow it.

En octobre 1937, Grace McKee (devenue Mme Grace Goddard en 1935), amie de la mère de Marilyn, prend Norma Jeane (Marilyn Monroe) chez elle: elle vit avec son époux Doc Goddard et les enfants de celui-ci, Eleonore 'Bebe' Goddard (née en 1926 comme Marilyn), John Frederick (né en 1928) et Nona Josephine (née en 1930). Ils vivent alors à Los Angeles, au 3107 Barbara Court, puis à Nebraska avenue. 

In October 1937, Grace McKee (became Mrs. Grace Goddard in 1935), friend of Marilyn's mother, takes Norma Jeane (Marilyn Monroe) into her home: she lives with her husband Doc Goddard and his children, Eleonore 'Bebe ' Goddard (born in 1926 as Marilyn), John Frederick (born in 1928) and Nona Josephine (born in 1930). They then live in Los Angeles, at 3107 Barbara Court, and in Nebraska avenue.
