Lot 488 MARILYN MONROE ARCHIVE OF PHOTOGRAPHS BY JOSEPH JASGUR
An archive of photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken by Joseph Jasgur in 1946. The photographs were taken of a 19-year-old Norma Jeane Dougherty, before she was Marilyn Monroe. Taken in Los Angeles for Blue Book Modeling Agency, these photographs comprise one of Monroe’s first modeling portfolios. It was this portfolio she presented to Ben Lyon, the casting director at 20th Century Fox who signed her to the studio and shortly after changed her name. Jasgur’s images of Norma Jeane Dougherty mark the beginning of her career and offer us a unique glimpse of Marilyn Monroe, before she was Marilyn.
All prints in this lot are from these early photoshoots and are directly from the estate of Joseph Jasgur. Included in the archive are approximately 400 color and black and white later prints, size 11 by 14 inches; approximately 120 black and white gelatin silver prints, size 8 by 10 inches; approximately 10 black and white gelatin silver prints, size 11 by 14 inches; some oversize prints, contact prints, and a wooden camera tripod used by Jasgur. Some prints are signed or stamped by the photographer, others are not. Print dates vary. Condition varies.

Lot 920  MARILYN MONROE PHOTOGRAPHS BY ANDRE DE DIENES
Two black and white double-exposure photographs of Marilyn Monroe (circa 1946), both having photographer’s stamp on verso. Approximately 11 by 14 inches each. Reference: Similar photographs from this session can be seen on pages 210-232 of de Dienes’ book Marilyn (Taschen, 2002). De Dienes met 19-year-old aspiring model Norma Jeane Dougherty in 1945 after requesting a model from her agents at Blue Book Modeling for a then upcoming project. They immediately bonded and traveled together through the western states to capture Norma Jeane in various natural settings. During that trip, they became romantically involved and were briefly engaged. After their romance ended amicably, de Dienes continued to photograph Norma Jeane and well into her career as Marilyn Monroe. The chemistry between the two was undeniable; his work captured some of the finest images of the star. Many of the photographs can be seen in his book titled Andre de Dienes / Marilyn (Taschen, 2002).

Date: September 15, 1954, at one o'clock.
Location: between 51 and 52st Street on the corner of Lexington Avenue.
Scene: it is a mythical scene, one of the most famous in the history of cinema, which is probably the "most scene view in the world," the one where the white dress of Marilyn Monroe rises, driven by the blow of the subway grate. The press spoke of as "the most interesting exhibition since Lady Godiva".

Extraits du journal de Bruno Bernard:
- Le magazine Redbook engagea Bruno Bernard pour couvrir le tournage de Marilyn dans The Seven Year Itch.
- New York - 14/09/1954.
