Le 24 mars 1955, Marilyn Monroe se prépare dans sa suite de l'Ambassador Hotel, à New York, enfilant une robe or lamé très moulante, se parfumant de Chanel n°5 et se repoudrant le visage, avant de se rendre, avec Milton Greene, au Morosco Theatre pour assister à la dernière pièce de théâtre de Tennessee William, "La chatte sur un toit brûlant", mise en scène par Elia Kazan, avec Barbara Bel Geddes dans le rôle de Maggie et Ben Gazzara dans celui de Brick (qui sera adapté au cinéma en 1958 par le réalisateur Richard Brooks avec Paul Newman et Elizabeth Taylor).

On March 24, 1955, Marilyn Monroe prepares herself in her suite at the Ambassador Hotel, New York, fitting in a skin-tight gold lame dress, perfuming Chanel No. 5 and makie-up her face, before going at the Morosco Theatre, with Milton Greene, for the new play of Tennessee William "Cat on a hot Tin Roof", directed by Elia Kazan, with Barbara Bel Geddes who plays the role of Maggie and Ben Gazzara who is Brick (which will be adapted to film in 1958 by director Richard Brooks with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor).

Collins recalls that on this night he waited for MM and her group (which included her date, Milton Berle) to come out of the Copacabana night club which was located upstairs in the same building as The Hotel 14 at 14 East 60th Street in Manhattan -- his patience paid off when he was able to snap these great candid photos of the star as well as pose next to her in one (top row, center).

This item has Christie's tags attached that indicate it was intended to be sold in the 1999 auction but was returned to the estate and subsequently sold by Julien's Auctions. Monroe can be seen with this bag in her makeup kit in the 1955 photograph by Eve Arnold and in images within the book Marilyn Monroe by Eve Arnold.

But also Dukes, Duchesses, Knights and the Ambassador of the US. Marilyn and Arthur arrive at 11pm and leave the party at 4am. During the party, Marilyn and Arthur dance together on the Gershwin song 'Embracable You'.

A Marilyn Monroe "Golden Dreams" calendar from 1954 featuring the famous "Red Velvet" photo session image of Monroe, taken by Tom Kelley in 1949. At the time of this photo session Monroe was 22 years old and struggling with her career. In 1954 Marilyn's career was skyrocketing. She was newly married to Joe DiMaggio and began work on The Seven Year Itch (20th Century Fox, 1955). Monroe brushed off the media criticism of the calendar and refused to lie about the photographs as asked by 20th Century Fox.

lot n°521: MARILYN MONROE GIFTED MONEY CLIP
A Tiffany money clip, stamped 14K, gifted to Allan "Whitey" Snyder by Marilyn Monroe. The clip is engraved "Whitey Dear:/ While I'm still warm/ Marilyn." Snyder, already a successful Hollywood makeup artist, first worked with Monroe during her 1946 screen test with 20th Century Fox, which resulted in her first studio contract. Snyder went on to become Monroe's on-screen and personal makeup artist. Monroe and Snyder developed a close friendship during their 16-year association, so close in fact that Monroe made the macabre request that Snyder do her makeup for her own funeral should anything ever happen to her. Snyder's glib response: "Sure, bring the body back while it is still warm and I'll do it." Not long after that Monroe gave Snyder this money clip. In 1962 Snyder sadly kept his promise of preparing Monroe's final makeup. Accompanied by a Tiffany cloth holder; a letter from Westwood Memorial Park thanking Snyder for his cosmetic work and for being a pallbearer at Monroe's funeral, with original transmittal envelope; a black and white photograph of Snyder and the other pallbearers carrying Monroe's coffin; and an article from The Enquirer that shows the pair together and discusses the promise Snyder made to Marilyn and her gift.

MAC annonce le lancement de produits cosmétiques inspirés par Marilyn Monroe

La société MAC Cosmetics a annoncé le lancement mondial en octobre d'une ligne de beauté inspirée par la star du cinéma des années 1950 Marilyn Monroe.

WWD rapporte le 22 février que cette ligne de produits cosmétiques comprendra des ombres à paupières, des rouges à lèvres, des vernis à ongles et des eye-liners - les prix allant de 15 à 27 dollars.

Cette annonce arrive à un moment où Marilyn Monroe fait de nouveau parler d'elle.

Michelle Williams a ainsi été nominée aux Oscars pour son interprétation de la célèbre actrice dans le biopic My Week With Marilyn, et l'intérêt pour ses lèvres rouges et son fameux grain de beauté semble être ravivé.
