07/01/1955, New York - Marilyn Monroe Productions

Miss Monroe's well-known and distracting qualities are suggested even when she sits in repose for a portrait. Her disturbing walk and talk made her a screen star. Then her songs in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the popular record album from it sound track added something new to her reputation. A photographer ordinarily is pleased to get one fine portrait from a sitting by a subject. Any one of these ten pictures of a type preferred by gentlemen is good enough for a cover. One appears on the cover of this issue.

Traduction

Fleur Cowles, editor-in-chief of Look magazine, brought Milton to Los Angeles to meet Marilyn Monroe, for a publication in the magazine.
This September 2, 1953, Milton H Greene photographes for the first time Marilyn Monroe: it's this sitting "Mandolin", taken in Look studio in Los Angeles. Marilyn is returned from Canada the day before and don't start filming the scenes in the studios of "River of no return" in Los Angeles until a few days later, as she sprained her ankle while filming in Canada. The photos of the setting "Mandoline" are remained little published at the time of Marilyn's lifetime. When Greene has sent Marilyn the rejection of the session, "she answered him with two dozen roses and called to say they were the most beautiful pictures she had ever seen."
Over the next three days, Milton and Marilyn will do four other sessions together (Nude, Evening Dress, Tree, Rock and candids in backstage).

02/09/1953, Los Angeles - Nude par Milton Greene

Séance "Nue"
Nude Sitting

Sitting that belongs to the series of photos taken at the Look magazine studio in Los Angeles on September 2, 1953, where Milton H Greene photographes for the first time Marilyn Monroe. This session called "Nude" was taken after the left of the magazine team, Marilyn being naked under the sweater coat that belongs to Amy Greene, the wife of the photographer.
Marilyn remains on the floor, on her knees, cross-legged or lying, following the sprained ankle she made on the set of "River of no return" in Canada. Note also the trace of the bandage on his left ankle on some shots.
The photos being considered too daring for a star, only the shots of Marilyn sits cross-legged, coat well closed, will be published in the edition of Look. It's only in 1997 that the photograph of Marilyn on her knees will be published in cover of Playboy magazine.
