Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) is so thrilled that her son Randy has fallen in love that she decides to throw an engagement party and invite all her high society friends. She asks her butler Salisbury (Steven Geray) to receive the decorator M Ripple. When the latter rings the doorbell, Mr. Ripple (Dave Barry) introduces himself speaking to Salisbury in a gurgling voice;he is even accompanied by his son, Junior Trickle (Alan Barry), who speaks with the same voice, which totally baffles Mr Salisbury. He brings them into the large living room, which is to be decorated for the party. They discuss the elements to put in place for the decoration, when the doorbell rings. M Salisbury, annoyed, will open the door to Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr). The butler answers him curtly and lets him in, without giving him time to introduce himself, thinking that he is dealing with an assistant decorator.
Billy Mackay (Eddie Garr), suitcase in hand, finds himself waiting alone in the great hall when Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) and Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks), followed by their respective mothers - Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) and AdeleCarroll (Nana Bryant) - down the stairs.Peggy throws herself into Billy's arms, happy to see him.Billy is indeed a longtime friend of the Martins.Peggy introduces him to Mrs. Carroll who calls Salisbury to bring Billy to her room.Mr. Salisbury is confused to realize that Billy is not an employee who came for the preparations, but that he is one of the guests. He then takes the suitcase and invites him to follow him to the bedroom.
Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) joins the bedroom she shares with her daughter Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) where they are received at Mrs. Carroll's (Nana Bryant) home, mother of Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks) whom Peggy frequents.Mae spent part of the evening discussing social affairs with Mrs. Carroll, a subject of discussion yet far removed from Mae's social middle, who prefers to have fun with it. Peggy is on her own amazed but she tells her mother how she feels about the situation that she seems to be too good to be true ("I only hope it is not a dream and someday I wake up").
Meanwhile, Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks) is finishing writing a letter in his office room when his mother Adele Carroll (Nana Bryant) knocks on the door wanting to discuss about Peggy, taking on a rather solemn tone.Randy, embarrassed, wants to start the discussion (he actually wants to reveal to his mother the profession of Peggy, dancer and singer in a cabaret), but he does not have time to start the discussion, so his motherinterrupts him to announce her idea to organize an engagement party, with a lot of entertainment, thus wanting to please his son to finally see him so in love;we learn that he is also his only son.

Meanwhile, her daughter Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) is at the restaurant with Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks). They observe each other with tenderness and passion while the other looks elsewhere. Then Randy proposes to Peggy to dance and she accepts.
Pendant qu'ils dansent une valse les yeux plongés l'un dans l'autre, Peggy fredonne sa chanson "Anyone can see i love you", la chanson d'amour qu'elle chante d'habitude sur scène.
As they dance a waltz staring into each other, Peggy hums her song "Anyone can see i love you", the love song she usually sings on stage.
Peggy poursuit la chanson "Anyone can see i love you" par le refrain.
Then they end the evening in a convertible car parked at the top of a cliff whose view overlooks the ocean. Peggy continues the song "Anyone can see i love you" with the chorus. When she stops singing, Randy asks her to continue. Peggy replies that he can continue the song on his own but he says he doesn't know the lyrics, so Peggy tells him to make them up in his own words, which he does but speaking. Then they come closer to each other to kiss.

Randy Carroll (Rand Brooks) is in the car with his friend (Myron Healey) and his cousin Peter Winthrop (Robert Clarke) who is driving. The buddy asks Pete where he is taking them, he replies they go to see "Peggy Martin".Randy doesn't know her, he hasn't seen the show where she is performing yet.Her friend tells him she's "the new darling of burlesque".
On stage, wearing a long black sequined dress, Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe) dances and sings "Every Baby Needs a Da-da-daddy".In the audience, the three young men (Randy, his friend and his cousin) are under the spell. While she dances, raising her leg at the edge of the stage, Randy is totally dazzled. Her friends tell him that Peggy's mother is also in the show.During the song, the other singers and dancers join Peggy on stage.Among them, Mae Martin (Adele Jergens), Peggy's mother. They are dressed in baby-doll outfits, like nannies holding bathers that they make dance on the ground. When they have finished their performance and leave the stage, Randy applauds vigorously, his eyes full of stars.
The girls of the show are in the large lodge shared in common, seated next to each other, finishing their preparations for their beauty treatment: hair and make-up. Mae Martin (Adele Jergens) brushes off lipstick while her daughter Peggy Martin (Marilyn Monroe), seated next to her, powders her cleavage. As they argued the day before, they watch each other out of the corner of their eyes, without looking at each other or smiling. Manager Joe (Frank J Scannell) is heard knocking on the dressing room door to shout to the girls that they have 15 minutes left before going on stage. That's when Bubbles LaRue (Marjorie Hoshelle), who is the "queen of burlesque" makes a royal entrance into the dressing room, heading straight for Peggy, to show her her bracelet which shines with a thousand fires. She tells Peggy that if she wanted to, she could have one too if she accepted the invitations sent out by some of the men in the audience. Mae turns to Bubbles to tell her to leave Peggy alone, which annoys Peggy who retorts to her mother that she can very well answer herself. Bubbles then openly mocks Peggy, and Mae tells Bubble to go back to her dressing room. The tone rises and Bubbles is shown to be obnoxious towards Mae, both in word and deed, as she violently pushes her and Mae falls, restrained by the other girls sitting next to her. Then Peggy gets up and throws herself on Bubbles, who falls back on the sofa placed behind. All the girls come together and support Peggy, who molests Bubbles with her feather hat! Warned by the screams of the girls, Joe arrives to separate the two women. In an authoritative tone, Joe orders the girls to go on stage because the show is about to begin. They all leave the dressing room, quickly putting their hair back; Peggy tucks her mother Mae's hair right in and they hug each other.
Joe turns towards Bubbles to tell to go put on her costume. She doesn't listen to him, even calling him a simple stooge. But Joe reminds her of the rules: although she is the star of the show, she must perform and he orders her to go and get ready.Bubbles retorts as she quits right now and leaves the room.Joe looks at her puzzled, but he is not worried because he seems to have an idea in his head by the smile he sketches.
The girls leave the stage and go backstage.Mae looks concerned.Joe calls out to discuss: straight away, Mae apologizes.Joe explains to her that Bubbles is gone and he needs another headliner for the show and that will be Mae.She's surprised and doesn't seem too keen on the idea, but Joe demands it because "the show must go on".Mae joins the girls' dressing-room.
Mae walks into the dressing room where the girls are all sitting combing their hair. She grabs Peggy by the arm and asks her to follow her, explaining to her that Bubbles is gone and therefore there is an opportunity to be seized.

Reportage "Marilyn Monroe / Simone Signoret"

Multicolored striped two-piece swimsuit (with bands of colors yellow, brown, orange and blue), tied with a knot at the crossing of the chest on the bra and on the shorty panties. It is possible that this swimsuit was part of the personal wardrobe of Norma Jeane Dougherty (future Marilyn Monroe), who wore it to several advertising photo shoots in 1945 and 1946. It is a swimsuit from the American brand Catalina.
The first photograph showing Norma Jeane wearing this swimsuit was taken in 1945, where she posed as a model at the Farr-Hueth and H Maier studios in Los Angeles, named by the studio photographers (Potter Hueth, Bob Farr); She is dressed in two two-piece swimsuits from the Catalina brand: a two-tone swimsuit and this striped swimsuit. These photographs are intended to form a kind of professional book portfolio for Norma Jeane, in order to allow her to be hired as a model to pose in fashion catalogs.
Photographer Potter Hueth quickly did more Norma Jeane posing sessions, from classic studio portraits to stunning color shots taken outdoors.Probably in the last quarter of 1945, with straightened hair, she posed in the striped bikini with a dog at Villa de Leon (built by Leon Kauffman), overlooking the coastline of Topanga, California.
Ces poses de style pin-up d'après-guerre feront la couverture de deux magazines: These post-war pin-up style poses will do the covers of two magazines: Laff, 06-1946, USA & Damernas Varld, 1947, Suede
(voir l'article 1946, Première séance avec Bernard of Hollywood)
It was while at the dentist that Norma Jeane met photographer Bruno Bernard who has his own studio "Bernard of Hollywood" on Sunset Boulevard.Bernard hired her to pose for advertising poses (notably for a pharmaceutical product and for the Don Lee Television studios) taken around the spring of 1946. These were the first photographs that Bruno Bernard took of Norma Jeane / Marilyn (they would work againtogether over several years).Norma Jeane wears her striped bikini with black heeled shoes open to the toes.
Registered with the Blue Book modeling agency (she signed her contract on August 2, 1945), Norma Jean was hired as a model by several photographers. This is how the photographer Joseph Jasgur did several sessions with her in March 1946 on Zuma Beach in Malibu, California. For the posing sessions, Norma Jeane wears several outfits, including her two swimsuits from the Catalina brand: the striped one and the one with the bird motif.
Finally, it is still within the framework of her modeling activity, that Norma Jeane does a photo shoot, on the Castle Rock State Park beach in California, one summer day in 1946 with the photographer William Carroll.Again, she poses with her own clothes, including her two-piece Catalina swimsuits for color portraits. She wears a striped scarf back in her hair.

Arline Hunter (1931 ) mannequin et actrice américaine La "Marilyn érotique"
american actress and model The "erotic Marilyn"
Arline Hunter - also spelled Arlene - was born December 16, 1931 in Caldwell, Idaho, USA.Very young, she posed as a model to support herself, but also to pay college for her brother.
In 1948, she starred in an erotic short, titled The Apple Knockers and the Coke, also known as The Girl, the Coke and the Apple.Screened in New York theaters in the 1970s, the film was screened with the name of Marilyn Monroe headlining.Rediscovered at the dawn of the 1980s, this little film will once again be unfairly attributed to Marilyn Monroe, all based on a vague resemblance between Arline and the young Marilyn. She will appear in other erotic films, like The Sea Siren.
On June 26, 1952, Marilyn Monroe goes to a trial in Los Angeles court to testify against Kaupman and Kaplen, who used her name in erotic-pornographic photographs for advertising purposes (they were sold by mail);on the pictures, it was Arline Hunter.

Moreover, Arline will build her career around this resemblance: in July 1953, she appears in the popular Eye magazine, which presents her as the "delicious double of Marilyn";she also does the covers of Celebrity, Screen Photography, Night and Day magazines.

And in August 1954, she is elected "playmate of the month" by Playboy magazine, posing exactly as Marilyn has done in 1949, lying naked on red satin sheets.
Arline will also pose for photographer André De Dienes, who photographed for several years the young Norma Jeane, future Marilyn. In addition to his advertising contracts, the photographer was also specialized in photos of naked women.
Puis au cours des années 50, Arline se teindra les cheveux en blonde platine et arborera la même coupe que Marilyn. Elle ne rencontrera malheureusement jamais un réel succés, sa carrière étant spécifiquement basé par des photographies où elle pose nue; Then during the 1950s, Arline dyed her hair in platinum blonde and wore the same hairstyle as Marilyn.She will unfortunately never meet a real success, her career being specifically based on photographs in which she poses nude;

She will get only meager roles in the cinema, in minor films, where she plays most of the time very sexy characters. She will also appear in TV series like Perry Mason.
She now lives in a retirement home in Southern California.
Palace Theatre To Have Premiere Of Midwest Picture
On Thursday March 28, 29, 30, The Palace Theatre will join with more than 200 cities in the four states, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, for the world premiere showing of the motion picture, "Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!" the Technicolor picturization of George Agnew Chamberlain's heart warming story of farm folks and, of all things... mules, and condensed some months ago in the Reader's Digest.
Because it is so vividly a story of midwestern people, "Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!" slides right past New York, Hollywood, yes, even Chicago and Miami, to make its world premiere out here where tha tall corn grows and the prairies give a man beathing space. It stars Lon McAllister, June Haver and Walter Brennan, a trio so well remembered from that another Technicolor classic, "Home in Indiana" but even these lovable personalities step back for the real stars of the picture, "Moonbeam and Crowder" a pair of handsome bay mules.
Hollywood has given us Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and other dog stars: Flicka, Smoky, Black Beauty and the Red Stallion, handsome horses, and even an elephant star, but it took George Agnew Chamberlain to lift the mule out of the derogatory position into which Bing Crosby pushed him when he crooned "Swinging on a star"... in fact the writer admits it was Bing's opinion of mules that prompted him to write "Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!"
The farms on which June Haver and Lon McAllister live are as modern as the tractors, station wagons and New Look frocks and bathing suits you can find in any midwestern farmyard. The Technicolor camera's revealment of rolling hills and lush fields might have been photographed from the backporch of any Iowa land owner.
Its richly original story of how the span of the wise and stout hearted mules solved the youthful problems of June, Lon and their families will delight midwesterners when they see it ahead of Hollywood and Broadway folks who take such pride in their ability to see our movies first. March 11th we in the Midwest upset their applecart.
"Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!" will open Sunday March 28 at The Palace Theatre in Alton for a 3-day showing. .

Midwest Gets World Preview of Movie "Scudda Hoo ! Scudda Hay!" Showing Here Follows Premier at Sedalia
A year or so ago a serial story was published in the Country Gentleman with the curious title of "Scudda-Hoo ! Scudda-Hay!". It was later published in book form and a condensation appeared in The Reader's Digest.
The popularity of the story introduced 20th Century Fox Film Corporation to buy the screen rights, and it has been made into an equally entertaining and wholesome motion picture, which will have its world premiere in Sedalia, on Wednesday, March 10, and will be shown in upwards of 392 pictures in the middle west immediately following the picture. The picture will open in Chillicothe with the Saturday night prevue and will show Sunday through Tuesday at The Riz Theatre.
"Scudda-Hoo ! Scudda-Hay!" is a down-to-earth story about a boy and a girl and a team of beautiful big red mules, and how the boy's devotion to the mules pays off with his winning the girl. The locale for pictures purpose, is a Missouri farm. Filmed in technicolor, the picture is scenically beautiful as well as being a story that will appeal to all classes of patrons. It belongs in the same category, according to Manager John Newcomer of the Ritz, with "Home of Indiana".
Stars of the picture are June Haver, Lon McCallister and Walter Brennan and other prominent players in the cast are Anne Revere, Henry Hull, and Natalie Wood, the snooty little girl who will be remembered for her appearance in the "Miracle of 34th Street."
Mr McCallister, accompanied by two new Fox junior stars Colleen Townsend and Betty Ann Lynn, will be present in Sedalia for the world premiere, which Sedalia has designated as "Scudda-Hoo ! Scudda-Hay! Day", and the entire town is turning out to make Wednesday, March 10, the biggest day in Sedalia history. A stade-wide prize mule show, a "Queen of the Jeans" contest and a mammoth street parade are included in the day's program. .

Having long since found the secret of how to make agriculture pay in a series of Technicolored pictures localized on assorted farms, Twentieth Century-Fox is now extending both its formula and its luck in a rather reckless venture entitled "Scudda-Hoo! Scudda Hay!" Not only is that title a bit disenchanting in itself but the objects of pastoral admiration in this film are, of all things, a pair of mules. At least, they're the major interest of Fox's perennial farm boy, Lon McCallister, in this rural romance now showing on the Roxy's screen. To the average patron, however, it is questionable whether these mules will have quite the same fascination as previous beasts seen on Fox's model farms. For, although they are very pretty creatures—sleek and shiny and full of oats—the best they can do in the way of action is pull a tractor out of the mud. And the most suspenseful element they can offer to the script is a not too exciting uncertainty as to whether they will "drive" for Lon.More likely as entertainment are the pungent and liquor-limbered spiels of that veteran farm hand, Walter Brennan, in praise of the qualities of mules. Also the toothsome appearance of June Haver as a farmer's nubile lass whom young Lon finds of secondary interest should be to the average audience taste. Less attractive and plainly artificial in this generally fakebucolic film are the fancy harangues and gyrations of the other actors in a conspicuously hammy plot. For the information of the curious, we might add that "Scudda-Hoo Scudda Hay!" is not, as the advertisements have it, "a cry that stirs young hearts to love." It is simply (according to this picture) what a driver says to mules when he wants them to "giddap." There is no evidence that it stirs anything to love.On the stage at the Roxy is Ed Wynn heading a show which includes Hollace Shaw, Dick and Dot Remy, the Three Rockets, Davis Cunningham and the Roxy Choral Ensemble and Roxyettes. .
"Scudda Hoo ! Scudda Hay !"

Scudda Hoo ! Scudda Hay! (20th Century fox) would undoubtedly make a big hit with mules; presumably they already know what the title means (gee and haw in mules). The leading roles in this movie are played by two of the most gorgeous, henna hay-burners that ever plodded out of a studio make-up salon. The picture may also appeal to some children; it tells how a horde of anti-mule, glue-factory-minded grownups are foiled by a pro-mule boy (Lou McCallister) and his girl (June Haver). Adult people and horses may resent the film's hee-hawed refrain; that mules are smarter than either of them. .

SCUDDA HOO! SCUDDA HAY!
All of you who loved LonMcCallister and June Haver in Home in Indiana will be thrilled to find them reunited in Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!, a truly beautiful Technicolor film with a heart-warming story to tell. Lon McCallister, as Snug Dominy, lives on a farm with his dad, Milt Dominy (Henry Hull), his impossible stepmother, Judith Dominy (Anne Revere), and an obnoxious stepbrother, Stretch (Robert Karnes), who has nothing in common with Snug but a tremendous yen for Rad McGill (June Haver). When -following a particularly heated set-to with Judith, Milt Dominy leaves home to go back to the sea - Snug get a job as hired hand for Rad's father, owner of a brand new mule team. Seems that McGill can't do a thing with the mules, and he sells them to Snug, who, whith a Scudda Hoo! and a Scudda Hay! (that's mule talk for giddy-yap and whoa) can pratically get them to jump through hoops. With the help of a kindly neighbor, Tony Maule (Walter Brennan), Snug trains the mules well, eventually is able to earn fifteen dollars a day hauling lops with them.
Unfortunately he dosesn't make as good time with Rad as he does with the mules, and there are moments when you'd like to give her a hot-foot or something to make her see the light. She sees it eventually, but we've not telling how.
For photography that honestly takes your breath away, for those priceless shots of June in a bathing suit, for that McCallister grin - you've got to see Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! And don't say we didn't warn you - your small fry will come away wanting a mule team for pets ! - 20th-Fox. . SCUDDA HOO ! SCUDDA HAY !

TV Guide (USA) surTV Guide . This is a good movie about, of all things, training mules. The title refers to the yells trainers make while putting the beasts through their paces. McCallister is a young man who has just bought two mules from farmer Tully and now has to go to work for the man in order to pay off the purchase price. McCallister's stepmother, Revere, is a hard-bitten woman who has no sympathy for her stepson and showers her attentions on her natural son, Karnes. McCallister's father, Hull, is at a loss to control the relationship between him and Revere, which is rapidly disintegrating. Brennan is a veteran muler who befriends the youth and helps him stave off Tully's attempts to get the animals back. Tully's daughter is the attractive Haver, and it isn't long before she and McCallister are in love. She sides with him against her father and gives the old man a piece of her mind in one particularly good sequence. Tully's other daughter is Wood, who was appearing in her eighth movie at the age of 10. Marilyn Monroe had just signed a contract with the studio and her bit was snipped from the film, although there is a brief cut to her and Colleen Townsend as they row a canoe, but their faces cannot be discerned. The fun in the movie is in the good-natured way rural Americana is portrayed. Veteran scripter F. Hugh Herbert was directing his first movie in 15 years and did a fine job of keeping the action rolling, the love story sweet, and the villains menacing. .

The movie "The Ladies of the Chorus" is the first musical in which Marilyn Monroe plays. "Anyone Can See I Love You" is the second song sung by Marilyn in the film (she sings two solo titles, this one and "Every Baby Needs a Da-da-daddy" as well as the title of the film "Ladies of the Chorus" performed in chorus with the other singers). Marilyn Monroe rehearses the songs of the film with the musician Fred Karger, with whom she will fall madly in love. .

Green and Black-Sequined Leotard from 'BusStop' Body vertetnoirà paillettes de 'Bus Stop'
